Ossoff: "I think Pete Hegseth is frankly a deeply unwell person who seems to relish this kind of brutality all the while he's running a department that is falling into chaos. The guy cannot run the military competently and is spending his time with this kind of obscene medieval spectacle."

People will look back and wonder how we let it get this bad, and I, for one, would like to at least be able to say, with a straight face, that we left it all on the field.

these people really want to make "racist" akin to a slur rather than what it is, a straightforward label for a set of beliefs and views. if you don't like the label because you, correctly, associate it with degenerate chuds, then get better beliefs

Fascism cultivates the temptation to dispense w/ the noise of democracy even among its opponents. It lures us into believing, as Margaret Thatcher put it, “there is no alternative”—TINA—but the mirror. I favor the Bread & Puppet acronym TATA: there are thousands of alternatives. That’s democracy.

The two pictures are 11 years apart. On 10 May 1933, the Nazi Party staged an ideological spectacle of the burning of 'un-German’ books. 2nd image: Auschwitz II-Birkenau, burning pits outside gas chamber and crematorium V, 1944. #Auschwitz warns us of where ideologies of hatred can lead people.

Does the fascist Israeli regime support the U.S. war on Iran? Obviously. Did they "puppet master" it? If you're tempted toward that conspiracy theory you're giving into the undertow of a very old fascist bait-and-switch. You're not fighting fascism. You're slipping rightward.

ICE and CBP agents seem to enjoy gratuitously breaking glass—from car windows to store fronts to homes. It’s an expression of unchecked power and dominance: “We’re in charge. We break and shatter what we want.” And nights of broken glass have been a harbinger of worse to come.

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers. This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.
A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.

MAGA is defined by its total lack of a theory of mind for its enemies, and the fact that DHS and ICE still haven't wrapped their brains around the fact that their opponents also are able to highly effectively use the Internet to message, organize, and communicate really highlights that.

There is plenty of racism and authoritarianism in American history, no doubt, but what Trump is doing is unique. We've never had a strongman like this, who corrupts the entire government into a personal instrument and gives his supporters permission to commit libidinal violence in his name.

The Trumpists have no coherent idea of how to consolidate autocratic rule other than to lash out wherever they can. Confronted with hardening resistance, the only option they are left with, within the narrow universe of pathways MAGA is willing to consider, is to escalate.

Judging from the reactions to the piece, the idea that protests and public opinion are meaningless in the face of a paramilitary occupation, that authoritarian regimes don’t need to care about popular support, is still widespread. But it is wrong. And it perpetuates regime propaganda.

The idea that there are no protests in the US and no one is standing up to Trump is proving incredibly hard to kill over here in Germany. It’s become dogma, utterly detached from empirical reality. I wonder if the people who keep talking like that understand they’re perpetuating regime propaganda.
