All the dopes in the "Geez I dunno if Trump should be impeached" chattering coward class should maybe consider the idea of allowing a sitting President to act like this, over and over, with no repercussions.

Reyes to DOJ: "If you don't see the relevance of [the questions]," there's a bigger problem. "The questions go to whether or not I've been lied to. ... I am beyond disappointed in the gov't right now." Reyes extends the current TRO until 2p Tues. The plan is for Wischer testimony at 9:30a Tues.

Reyes: Know what I find most frustrating about this? [Silence.] Gov't: No, your honor. Noting that the court was told repeatedly that nothing was happening and that there was no urgency, Reyes calls the Trump admin's behavior "completely beyond the pale" and their claims "preposterous."

It matters that she's a member of Congress. This is an extreme escalation. He is attacking a member of the one body with the constitutional power to hold him accountable and check his crimes. And he's doing so trying to gin up a fake basis to strip her of her eligibility to be in Congress.

i also have a lot of questions about exactly what the judge believed they were signing here — knowingly authorizing a search warrant for a sitting member of congress, to look for decades-old paperwork a few weeks before an election is a very, very long limb to step out on

Ossoff is very deliberate with his words. So if he repeatedly calls his opponent a Nazi-adjacent bigot, it’s likely because that *is* what we do here in this country today to win elections in Georgia and fight the rising tide of white nationalism.

The more combative Dems get, the more of this they will run into. It will be a coordinated wave of elite opinion, scolding them, tamping them down. The fight strategy *only* works if they are willing to bull their way through it, blow it off, mock it. (Their history does not raise one's hopes.)

This is a moral atrocity and it needs to be loudly condemned as such. There is a reason that democracies *don't* do publicly televised executions (and why many don't execute people at all): it inculcates and rewards bloodthirst, which corrupts the spirit and corrodes the foundation of the polity.

Iran sometimes does public executions but I can't find evidence they've ever televised one. It seems like North Korea, China, and Saudi Arabia have also never televised or livestreamed any executions. Looks like the U.S. will be in a club of one if Pete Hegseth goes through with this.

Empirically, though, natural resources are at minimum weakly associated with territorial claims. Soyoung Lee even finds that the natural resources that provide concentrated benefits are negatively associated with claims. Also, oil is not positively associated with claims.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

It's the lure of "Grand Theory." Everybody wants to have or claims to have (Mearsheimer) the theory that explains the world. Aside from the fact that such theories typically are asinine and plainly wrong, for a long time, that was how one made a reputation or joined a camp. A pathetic waste of time.
