Love this - help a professor out? (Not me.)
Result of my https://ismy.blue/ test-- it shows a color gradient from green to blue and notes the boundary for me to switch from saying a color is green versus blue. (My boundary is at hue 175, bluer than 65% of the population.)

🎯 What should we expect from behavior change interventions? Growing evidence suggests that most behavior change interventions have small effects on behavior. I regularly hear fellow behavioral scientists understandably feeling discouraged by this. But should we be discouraged? Not necessarily.🧵

Through the golden road, Shiga, Japan. Photography by Takk B on 500px
Bathed in the warm, low-slanting light of late autumn, this mesmerizing photograph captures the famous Metasequoia Avenue (Metasequoia Namiki) in Makino Town, Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture. Over five hundred dawn redwoods line a two-kilometer stretch of road, their soaring crowns arching inward to create a luminous, incandescent canopy of rust-gold needles. Photographer Takk B frames the avenue along a dramatic central axis, following the undulating asphalt as it dips and rises toward a distant vanishing point. Cast across the road surface, the low sun projects a rhythmic pattern of long, dark shadows—creating a bold, striped alternation of light (hikari) and shade (kage) that recalls the delicate geometry of traditional bamboo blinds (sudare).

Botanically and culturally, the avenue represents a celebrated chapter in modern Japanese landscape design. First planted in 1981 as part of a regional agricultural development project, the dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) holds profound ecological significance as a "living fossil" (ikita kaseki), believed extinct for millions of years until living stands were rediscovered in central China in the 1940s and re-established throughout Japan. Although a 20th-century creation, the golden avenue honors a ancient design tradition: the creation of monumental tree-lined approaches (namiki) that historically defined sacred shrine approaches (sandō) and major feudal highways like the Nikkō Kaidō. Here, modern municipal planning and arboriculture converge, turning a simple transport corridor into a living architectural sanctuary.

Aesthetically, the composition is a masterclass in seasonal attunement (shun) and the contemplation of kōyō (autumn foliage). The fiery amber hue represents a brief, transitional climax—a fleeting fortnight in late November before the delicate, needle-like leaves fall, blanketing the ground and leaving behind stark winter silhouettes.

Psychological Science special issue call 📣 Ever had your research denigrated bc it's "only descriptive", "what's the mechanism though?" and "but what are the theoretical implications?" Now has come your time to shine. Send your best descriptive work! www.psychologicalscience.org/publications...
Psychological Science invites submissions that advance psychological science through careful description of psychological phenomena. Psychological research often focuses on explaining and predicting phenomena before we have a sufficiently detailed understanding of them. It can be difficult to build strong theories on incomplete empirical foundations of the phenomena themselves. Careful descriptive research helps establish shared empirical reference points developed around well-characterized phenomena. As such, descriptive research contributes to psychological science both by improving our understanding of the phenomena themselves and by providing a stronger foundation for future theory-building, explanation, and prediction.

We are interested in manuscripts that:

Deepen our understanding of psychological phenomena, including what they look like, how they vary, and how they unfold;
Draw on a variety of sources of evidence and methods, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods approaches; research conducted in naturalistic settings; intensive, longitudinal, or small-sample designs; and open or large-scale datasets;
Provide necessary context for interpreting what is being described, including who is represented in the data, the settings and circumstances in which phenomena occur, and the broader social contexts in which they are situated; and/or
Make a substantive contribution to psychological science through the quality, depth, or significance of the description provided.
The deadline for submitting regular manuscripts is April 15, 2027. Registered Reports will also be considered. The deadline for submitting Stage 1 Registered Reports is November 15, 2026. Authors should indicate in the “Comments to Editor” box during submission that the manuscript is intended for the “Descriptive Research in Psychological Science” special issue.

Man abhors a vacuum.
SHOULD MEN VACUUM MORE?
Bouke de Vries
Cross-national surveys show that among heterosexual couples who share
a household, women tend to perform more housework than their male
partners. Many feminists believe that this must be unjust, the assumption
being that justice requires an equal distribution of housework between the
sexes. My aim in this contribution is to challenge this view. To do so, I dis-
tinguish three possible interpretations of it. The first says that heterosexual
co-residential partners, construed broadly to include married individuals,
should do as much housework as their partner and not more. The second
interpretation maintains that they should split evenly the housework that
must be done to realize a minimally decent living standard. And the third
maintains that the housework co-residential male and female partners
each perform as a group ought to be equal, whether or not the constituent
loads are equalized on an individual household level. All three versions
are found to be untenable.
