After experiencing sexual assault or abuse, many survivors struggle with sexual/romantic relationships. Scarleteen founder @heathercorinna.bsky.social writes about how to feel safe in your own body, rediscover your sexual self, and be kinder to yourself: www.scarleteen.com/read/abuse...
Black and white image of a young man sitting on the ground against a teal background. He is pinching the bridge of his nose as if he is frustrated or disappointed. The text above his head reads: "How can you create a happy, healthy sexual life with a partner when a history of abuse has left you with an array of wounds, fears, and physical and emotional reactions outside your control?"A graphic of a sticky note against a teal background. The text on the sticky note reads: "Heather writes... Ultimately, none of us are ever in full control of our bodies. So much of what our bodies do, including a lot of our sexual response, is involuntary, and that can be some of why sex can be extra challenging for sexual and physical abuse survivors. We’ve already struggled to feel real agency, autonomy and control when it comes to our bodies because of the experience and impacts of abuse, and now here go our bodies doing things without our permission or direction, or not doing things when we want them to..." Below the sticky note is more text that reads, "Read their advice at Scarleteen. Have your own question? Need some good help? You can post your own questions at the 'Ask for Help' section of our site."
