Back Yard Turkeys. Siamese cat. Other old man stuff. Reply guy. “Chronic case of teutonic lassitude.” 📌 South Shore MA

Oh they are not afraid of cats in general. Cats only kill what they can carry in their mouth and these lads are waaaay too large. Wee poults, on the other hand…

🪶 Hadn’t seen the lads in a while, but they came knocking this morning.
View from inside a kitchen door. The back of a siamese cat is sitting in front of a glass panel door, plexi storm door beyond that. A wild turkey tom is on the stoop, casting a quizzical eye on the cat. There are two more wild turkey toms visible beyond him (there were a total of seven, as is their custom). It’s fall, all the trees are turning bright shades of red and yellow, tons of leaves down in the yard.

Looked her up, artist specializing in traditional Wampanoag crafts: “In 2023, Marden made a turkey feather mantle she had twined by hand, making it the first-known such mantle created post-European contact 400 years earlier. Marden called it most likely the most important piece she will ever make.”

🪶 Saw this at the Cape Ann museum in Gloucester, MA, over the weekend. Julia Marden, of the Aquinnah Wampanoag Nation, wearing an incredible turkey feather coat. Photo by Matika Wilbur. This must’ve taken years to make.
A native american woman with grey hair, standing against a white backdrop. She is wearing a full-length coat made entirely from turkey feathers, mainly body feathers. It is fringed with tail feathers. She is also wearing what looks to be buckskin boots and a full length buckskin dress with fringe. The buckskin is decorated with blue floral designs. She has a septum piercing and looks happy and proud.

Turkey on a mural alert! Kendall Sq, Cambridge @haus53.bsky.social
An office building with a person on a lift that is painting a mural along its coffered exterior, which contains electric transformers that service the MBTA’s Kendall Station and Red Line rail.

The completed portion of the mural contains drawings of a turkey, flowers, a bee and a flying gull in silhouett.

There is a shared bike station, bike racks, a tree, fire hydrant and a sculpture across the sidewalk from the mural. The foreground of the picture contains a street marked for bicycle and automobile circulation.

🪶 These lads have been through it. Three days of high wind and pouring rain. One of them has a limp. Having “I survived the ‘26 Nor’easter” tees printed up for them.
Five wild turkey toms in a back yard. They are soaking wet and bedraggled. It’s almost October, leaves are turning. Everything’s wet.

🪶 Lad before the storm
A wild turkey tom standing in a back yard lawn. Bonus tom in the background by the bird bath. It is rather wind and we’re supposed to get a ton of rain and wind the next three days. Gonna be some rough nights for the lads, they sleep high up in trees.

🪶 Long Turkey from the Crossy Road video game. It’s a very blocky representation of a turkey with a long neck, standing on a salmon-colored surface against a light blue backdrop with a geometric design on it.

I’m afraid i’m a real person. I have turkeys in my yard nearly every day, and “i just think they’re neat.” I’ll occasionally search and see if anyone else has posted turkey stuff and will repost it.

Touching grass or whatever this is (They will not let me near them, I have tried on many occasions. 😭 It’s some of my favorite wild visitors- Osceola turkey ladies!) 💖
Three female turkeys are standing in the grass under a tree. A row of pink flowers is in the background hedge. Osceola turkeys are found only in Florida and are quieter, smaller, and leaner than other types of turkeys.

How do you know it's Fall in Savage? When the turkeys show up! But keep in mind, when you see our feathered friends out there, please DO NOT interact with them. They'll leave you alone if you leave them alone, but when bothered, they can attack humans and cause some serious damage.

Portrait illustration of a Wild Turkey hen in front of a cool gray-purple misty fall field of grasses. The turkey has dramatic goth body feathers, dark with silver edges, all at severe angles as she has raised them in a comfortable position. Her head is mostly bare blue and pink skin, very wrinkly and dotted with fine wiry hair-like black feather bristles. She has a big black wet eye and looks absolutely precious.
