CDMX rules. I’m walking 7-9 miles a day. The architecture is interesting and beautiful. Public transit runs frequently. Abundant protected bike lanes. A dozen parks like Washington Square and Prospect Park but with tropical plants.

I'm so glad I got rid of my car. I wish society rallied more around public transportation and walking. It's cost effective, eco friendly, healthier, and you actually notice more stores/eateries/scenery/humanity happening.

Chicago Concrete Post Company, 1924: “Smashing automobiles? Yes, — but saving lives.” Silent policemen were no flexposts. When “protecting pedestrians” was the end, unyielding mass was the means. That’s automatic enforcement our best tech today can’t match.

I would love it if people talked about disability access, universal design, and the citizen’s fundamental right to the city more often—not just when the Department of Transportation wants to install a speed bump.

Ontario's Premier shelved a plan to make minimum heights near transit, despite widespread support from other parties, cities, and presumably his own caucus. Doug Ford is Canada's top NIMBY. The centre-left in BC is eating conservative premiers' lunch on this issue. globalnews.ca/news/1074251...

I spent ~18 months collecting stories of Canadian drivers crashing into people and ended up with a set of 257 times they slammed into structures too. The stories are bonkers. Injuring kids in bed, damaging 4th floor apartments, burning down houses, annihilating restaurants-just par for the course!

The car hit a window on the second floor of the building and there’s possible damage up to the fourth floor, Mississauga Fire said.

When it comes to addressing the housing shortage, developers will undoubtedly play a crucial role. However, the current situation highlights that Indian developers, often backed by political connections, tend to exhibit NIMBY tendencies, exacerbating the housing shortage issue.

Rent control's major problem is that both benefits and harms are very drastic. One's stance on rent control often hinges on whether they believe migrants should have equal or fewer rights than natives in a housing shortage market.

Typically, the expansion of roads and the prioritization of car-centric infrastructure can be indicative of budget cuts. This approach tends to be inefficient in terms of resource allocation, leading to potential reductions in funding for public transit and general services as a consequence.

When you feel something's wrong with a city's transit system, it's always the unholy trifecta of budget cuts, privatization, and car lobby highway expansion. Latest victim: Porto, which I have been visiting for almost a decade now. A well oiled system is close to becoming unusable.
