I harp on this all the time, but there is so much peer reviewed solid evidence that we benefit from small talk with strangers, knowing our neighbours, chatting with our baristas, etc. And I believe that our shift away from that stuff is at the root of all our antisocial behaviour right now.

Also, 127 clarifies the 1m when passing. When overtaking a vehicle on the left, keep 1m. A cyclist traveling on the far right side may ride past on the vehicles right only if it is safe to do so. So, right-side filtering seems to still be OK.

I think this means that the rear vehicle could pull alongside the front vehicle (if there are lanes to do so) but must still yield to the pedestrian?

absolutely fucking incredible news for public health in canada that a safer supply organization successfully fought the constitutionality of drug possession trafficking laws for not providing any legal way to operate. selfless life-saving work that is actually being identified and respected as such.
But in her judgment on their constitutional challenge on Tuesday, Murray concluded that a non-medicalized safer supply program is urgently needed to save lives.

And with no legal source of drugs available for such a program, and no legal "safety valves" in the CDSA that would support setting one up, she found such a program "is legally and practically incapable of being exempted."

She said part of the CDSA "unjustifiably infringes" on two parts of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and deprives DULF members the "right to life and security of the person."

She gave Parliament six months to find a way to allow for a "pathway to non-medicalized safer supply."

We also need a new reporting system, clearly! People should be able to report being hit by a driver, near misses, crashes, close passes, drunk/distracted/aggressive driving, all without being victim blamed or made to regret their decision to report. Don’t involve the cops unless it’s necessary.

I personally would love to see most proactive traffic enforcement be done by municipal civil servants, the same way parking enforcement is. The police don’t wanna do this job so detask them of it, defund them for it, reassign it to someone who will do the work.
