This is one of the most dramatic drives/rides in the Dales. Buttertubs Pass winds its way through spectacular limestone scenery between Wensleydale and Swaledale. It's a route that never fails to impress. #YorshireDales #Buttertubs #ThursdayThoughts
A winding road crosses the high moorland of Buttertubs Pass in the Yorkshire Dales. Low cloud and mist fill the valley below, partially obscuring the landscape, while rolling green-brown hills stretch into the distance on either side. Above, patches of blue sky break through layers of white and grey cloud, creating a dramatic contrast between the sunlit uplands and the fog-filled valley.

4/n by a schools demographic context is to say we accept different standards for different children. And it is to children ofsted should be primarily accountable to. We absolutely should not accept lower standards for pooter children than richer ones whatever the root cause..

New rufty tufty boy in Year 1, left his lunchbox behind, so I take his hand to find it. Then his new pal runs out with it smiling, gives it to him and he bursts into tears and is so happy he fist-bumps his pal and it is too much for me so I've come to the office for a sit down.

TGT tomorrow wishes Julia Donaldson a Happy Birthday. Discuss writing songs, busking and why 'Gruffalo' offered more rhyming options than 'tiger'. bit.ly/TutorGroupThink
Wednesday 16th September
Happy Birthday to writer Dame Julia Donaldson who turns 78 today. After studying French & Drama at University where she learned guitar and met her future husband, Malcolm. Julia and Malcolm spent many summers busking around Europe and Julia wrote many new fun songs about their adventure to play on the streets.
She had a talent for writing songs and during the 70s she wrote many songs for BBC Children’s TV before briefly working as a teacher and then bringing up her children. In 1991 a publisher approached her asking if one of her 70s songs, A Squash and a Squeeze could be turned into a children’s book. It was a success and she began writing more rhyming children’s books. Her biggest seller, The Gruffalo came next in 1999 and only existed because it was hard to find a rhyme with ‘tiger’.
She is now the biggest selling British author of all time having written more than 60 books and 120 more for the Songbird phonics series. Meanwhile The Gruffalo has sold more than 17m copies in 27 years representing millions of children introduced to reading with the rhyme “Oh, help! Oh, no! It's a gruffalo!”
Were you read Julia’s books as a child? What’s your favourite of her books and why is it Room On The Broom?
Have you ever read a book to a younger child? Did you enjoy it?
What makes a good book for young children?

They'll be a lot of chatter about England's PISA results this morning, but we need to talk just as much about Wales. They rejected phonics and knowledge-rich curricula in favour of 'areas of learning', 'skills suites' and barely any testing. Wales is now 40 points below England in every domain.

To anyone who does not live in Paris but visits the city at regular intervals (as I do), the transformation has been staggering: Paris has been reclaimed from cars. It can be done, and could be done in London too. It is all about political will and taking the risk of being unpopular - for a while.
