This is almost certainly true, and the UK fails women refugees in multiple ways, including by refusing safe routes to come here, wrongly rejecting asylum claims, barring family reunion & not recognising trafficking victims promptly or at all. The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

The study did not look at income, religion, or ethnicity so idk why Michael cites it here. (In fact according to the study the countries with the strongest antivaxx attitudes are the Philippines, India, and China - kind of a stretch to get "affluent white people" from that.)

My subject is an offshoot of analytic philosophy so I find most humanities writing quite irritating, but I've grudgingly come to accept the point that sometimes you *can* get a complicated point across surprisingly well with a metaphor or a bit of wordplay, because human brains are weird like that
