2026 has been an active year for wildfires in the Arctic Circle with total estimated emissions, to 17 Aug, already 3rd highest since 2003, behind 2020 & 2019, despite starting later than usual in late July. #CopernicusAtmosphere GFASv1.2 data based on MODIS🛰️ @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social @ecmwf.int
Cumulative daily time series of fire emissions from the Arctic Circle (all latitudes poleward of 66.6 degrees North) for 2003 to 2026. As of mid-August the 2026 emissions are now the third highest behind the record years of 2020 and 2019.Time series of daily total estimated fire emissions in the Arctic Circle (all latitudes poleward of 66.6 degrees North) between 1 June and 31 August for all years between 2003 and 2026. Fire emissions from the Arctic Circle have been occurring later than usual in 2026 - burning since late July.

Analysis of 2026 Canada #wildfire emissions up to 9 July with the #CopernicusAtmosphere GFAS dataset shows more typical onset and magnitude following the previous three extreme years. Fires have been burning across the country from NWT to Newfoundland. @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social @ecmwf.int

Trump did not reach a settlement with the government. There was no case to settle. He has not created a slush fund. He has colluded with Todd Blanche to steal money from the US Treasury. This is not a “deal.” This is a crime for which Trump & Blanche must be prosecuted. It ia a crime.

The ice is thick, snow is plentiful. We could see one of those old time breakups on the Yukon: sheets of ice twelve feet thick and a hundred feet long get jammed and hoisted into the air and toppled back into the river again. When ice goes over the bank it can shear the trees like cut grass 1/2

Saskatchewan & Manitoba have already surpassed their previous highest annual total #wildfire emissions with Ontario amongst the highest in the 23-year #CopernicusAtmosphere dataset. Further west, British Columbia is comparable to 2023 & 2024 for the same time of year.
