You can still build websites like this and they can look good. There's even a niche genre of locally-hosted CMS applications that will automatically generate and upload static HTML if you don't want to do it by hand. Publii is one. Websites like this are FAST and don't get overwhelmed by bots.

I think a lot of things go wrong when we mistake programming metaphors for how the computer works. You might have object-oriented programming but it is only one computer; it's just a way of keeping track of how the program works. Similarly, we'd think about AI differently if rather than "agents"...

By the way, if it isn't obvious, I highly recommend visiting Crater Lake. It's one of our lesser-known national parks, which means it isn't super crowded. Besides the lake itself, it's surrounded by exotic volcanic landscapes -- including a pumice desert, and pinnacles created by steam vents.
