✨ It wasn’t until I first saw the Saxon crypt at St Wystan’s, Repton, that I understood John Betjeman’s words: ‘Holy air encased in stone.’ I’ve never felt the past so close, or found such comfort in feeling rooted in a longer story. A real hidden gem, a must see.

A wooden gate leads through to an undulating grassy field with trees further ahead. The trees are casting shadows in the sunlight on the grass. There is some blue sky and cloud above which can be seen through the branches of trees.

Everyone has heard of photographer Frank Meadow Sutcliffe but many fewer of Thomas Watson (1863-1957) He lived in Lythe, near Whitby where his father was joiner for Mulgrave Castle. This turn of the century photograph is of Staithes but he is remembered for his images of the castle.

I have just found out it is Equilux in the UK today when day and night are closest to being equal. Here are two photos I took on the same day in Warwickshire last year at around 7am & 7pm, 2 days after Equilux 2025. #Sunrise #Sunset #Equilux #Autumn #Fall #Scape #Skyscape #Landscape #Warwickshire
I took these to photos at the farm we occasionally stay at on 27th September 2025.
Today, as we had a misty start, there was no chance of a sunrise!
Equinox happened this year on 23rd September but Equilux is more precise in the 50/50 night/day balance.

A macro photo of a small brown insect resting within the vivid red petals of a flower. Its long, delicate antennae extend across the petals, while the fine details of its body and folded wings are captured against the softly blurred background. The intense red of the flower creates a dramatic contrast with the insect’s earthy brown tones.

A macro photograph of a spider suspended at the centre of its delicate web. Its rounded, dark brown abdomen is decorated with intricate cream and white markings, while its amber-brown legs are finely detailed with darker bands and tiny hairs. The spider stands out sharply against the warm terracotta background, creating a contrast between the intricate web and the bold patterning of the arachnid.

🇬🇧 Foggy morning in the the Catherine Park of Tsarskoe Selo 📷 Tsarskoe Selo, Katerina Novak 🇷🇺 Туманное утро в Екатерининском парке Царского Села #worldheritagesite #photography
EN: A collage of nine shots capturing a misty autumn morning in the historic Catherine Park at Tsarskoe Selo near St Petersburg, Russia. The images feature elegant marble statues, the iconic Cameron Gallery shrouded in fog, tree-lined alleys, symmetric paths fading into the thick mist, and the Humpback Bridge over Rybny Canal. The central close-up shot highlights delicate morning dew and frost droplets clinging to park plants. The collection beautifully conveys the quiet, romantic, and melancholic atmosphere of a classic St Petersburg autumn.
