This is well worth reading on the statistical reasoning beyond the A.I. doom hype. My view is this messaging is an attempt to get open weight models regulated into competitive disadvantage just as they become a threat to frontier models’ revenue and floatation.

Still sad about Shaun’s passing. I did the soundtrack / DI mix to Minds Locked Together, a short film he made while doing photography in club nights. We used to go clubbing and he’d come round my house with big art prints. One time he brought round dry ice “for the kids” but it had evaporated!! ❤️

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).
A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

The Bright Folk, the Bright Hills and their link to #Lughnasadh in Hookland folklore.
One of the peculiar names that Hooklanders give to the faery are ‘the bright folk’. As with most folklore, etymologists disagree with storytellers. Any child will quickly narrow it down to two opposing factions. First come those who have heard it is because the lords and ladies of the Summer Courts of Faery have bright countenances that shine as if beneath the skin. Second are those who have heard that when a door is opened in a faery mound or hollow hill, a great light spills out transforming all the surrounding space to silver.

This brings us to the Bright Hills of Hookland. Suggested by some archaeologists as having been used as beacon points since at least Saxon times and to have earlier incarnations as places important to the people of the late Neolithic period whose story is written in flint, bone and polished beads found upon them. There are five Bright Hills known to all who study the county’s folklore. They are known as entrances to halls where Otherworld feasts may be enjoyed by those lucky few who not only receive an invite. Whether this has any bearing on the fact that annual hilltop parliaments of the cunning folk are often held on the Bright Hills is hard to establish. However, their role as portals to fine faery banquets may explain why they are also known as the Breen Hills, a word etymologists tell us comes from the Proto-Germanic brēdana – to roast.

Given their association with faeries, it's no surprise all five Bright Hills at one time played host to annual Puck Fairs. These start on the old Celtic Festival of Lughnasadh, a time in the year that many Hooklanders will still tell you is when the county and Faeryland are close enough to each other that trade between them is possible. Come August 1st, the hills are still sites of trial-marriages, folk dancing, stick-fighting and vast bouts of drinking that provoke much moral indignation among Methodist and other interfering types of that ilk.

"Sinking in Polls, Farage Plans Week of Attacks on Immigration" Reform plan to make next week Immigration Week It could finally be the moment for broadcast media to notice the > 75% drop in net migration since 2024. There is also a 42% drop in boat crossings
Bloomberg: Sinking in Polls, Farage Plans Week of Attacks on Immigration

Reform UK party is planning to hold multiple press conferences on immigration to turn public attention to the issue, despite the number of migrants arriving in the country nearly halving from the same time last year.
A total of 14,200 immigrants have arrived in the UK via small boats so far this year, down 44% compared to the same period last year, with the Home Office and National Crime Agency increasing seizures of small-boat engines and improving enforcement cooperation with the French.
The issue of immigration threatens to be riskier territory for new Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who is already facing disquiet from backbench colleagues over reforms proposed during his predecessor's tenure.
