Glorious autumn devotional altar at Sheffield Goddess Temple. It looks fresh and beautiful every time I go in. Fabulous work.

Getting close to “done” with the Lambo Jota in all its 70s space age glory. Nothing broke when I put the body on! Lots of errors but I like it 😆. Tamiya polishing paste arriving today, a new experiment! #italiagb #histscalemodels

Decent progress on the 1975 Lamborghini Jota by Hasegawa. This has been a fabulously entertaining model to build, really enjoyed it. #histscalemodels #italiaGB

Most of my modelling this year has been of robots. Here’s a big purple hovercraft robot with a maintenance bot and a guy in a mech suit. The purple is amazing IRL. Model is a Hasegawa / Maschinen Kriege set, re-versioned as civilian. #scalemodel Not quite #histscalemodels

It’s been a great week for solstice work with my group. Monday night get together in the glade for a proper celebratory working, then Tuesday night I led a long walking meditation in the Peak. A lot of fun and worth the sweat!

Primed and shaded my first order from @weprintminiatures.com - some female engineers at 55mm to go with some robots. Very good, sharp printing. Think the scale is a touch large for 1/35, would be nice if they had 1/35 as a standard size instead of guessing. Will probably get more.

Numbers, in action, North Sea oil version Courtesy of @drsimevans.carbonbrief.org
FACTCHECK UPDATE: No, the UK can't "be more like Norway" in the North Sea

🇬🇧 extracted most of its oil & gas after privatisation
🇳🇴 has much more left due to state stewardship
🤔Lawson spent UK windfall on tax cuts; Norway got a sovereign wealth fund

https://www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-nine-false-or-misleading-myths-about-north-sea-oil-and-gas/In contrast, Norway has only used up 57% of the "expected recoverable resource" from its part of the North Sea, according to official estimates published by Norwegian Petroleum.
This is the result of deliberate choices taken decades ago in the two countries, says Prof Caroline Kuzemko, co-director of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) and professor of political economy at the University of Warwick. She tells Carbon Brief:
"The Norwegian government took a strategic decision to have a steady rate of depletion, so the assets didn't run out too quickly."
This choice, as well as the state control that Norway has maintained over its oil and gas industry, is "pretty much diametrically opposite" to what the UK has done, she says:
"The Conservatives took a decision [in the 1980s] to allow others to be in control of [the UK's] North Sea assets and, therefore, we are now in a position where you can't order anyone to get more oil out, whereas Norway did the opposite."
Prof Kuzemko notes the then-Conservative government privatised the oil and gas industry in the 1980s, after which there was a "rapid" depletion of the UK's resources. She explains:
"The rate of depletion of the UK continental shelf has just been rapid, because that's in the interests of the [private] companies that were running those sites."
(The revenue from North Sea privatisation and the subsequent rapid extraction of its oil and gas resources was a major - and underappreciated - reason why then-chancellor Nigel Lawson was
able to cut income taxes in the 1980s, Kuzemko notes.)
Similarly, former government energy official Dan Quiggin, now a senior policy adviser at NGO Transport and Environment, tells Carbon Brief that Norway simply has more oil and gas left than the UK, where "most of what was there has been extracted". He says:
"The UK spent its windfall on current expenditure in the 1980s and 1990s. You can't retroactively have Norway-scale reserves or Norway-scale savings - those decisions were made long …

A recent #scalemodels diorama of a 1/35 Tamiya Panzer IV, built as a “what if” model in Hydra markings, with various magical creatures. In this alternate history the Roman Empire never took over, and patriarchy never got going in the Iron Age. Really pleased with paint, weathering and diorama.
A “what if” model of a Panzer IV in Hydra markings with various magical creatures. Nice diorama with a blue dragon creature on left, a flame wielding mage in front, and a middle aged woman conversing with an aquatic priest on the right. A different shot of the same model.Close up of the Panzer with decent weathering and a lovely rich blue colour. Close up of the tank commanders with a lot of bokeh.

Recent build of a 1969 Chevy Camaro in 1/25. Utterly gorgeous. Had to do it weathered because I couldn’t get the glossy pant finish right. Still nice. Will be part of a weird diorama. #scalemodelling
Side view of a sleek 1969 Chevy at 1/25 scale. Weathered but pretty.Heavy bokeh but the engine is mintBonnet on, with a post apocalyptic figure who will be in the diorama Bit more grime on this side. Thus build was tricky but huge fun - first model car at 1/25 I’ve done.

I carved a pumpkin! Happy Halloween to all who celebrate ☺️
Glowing red carved pumpkin with an evil grinning expression sitting on leaf covered ground. The picture was taken in the dark and in motion so there is a doubling of the pumpkin image, and the other lights have become streaks of luminance. Everything is in warm tones of dark orange.

Macbeth’s witches were actually combining herbal remedies that were commonly used. The witch craze was an assault on “cunning women” who provided basic medical care for the poor. From the excellent Haddon Hall exhibition on witchcraft.
SHAKESPEARE'S MIX
Even the grish-sounding ingredients Macbeth's witches throw into their cauldron were common herbs with medicinal qualities: 'eye of newt' is the antibacterial and antioxidant mustard seed, 've of frog is buttercup, used to combat arthritis,' wool of bat' is moss, used as a foulice or wound-binder, tongue of dog is hound's tongue plant, used against infections, hider's fork is plantain which can aid digestion and healing and 'owlet's wing' is the diuretic, goose-grass, also used to treat skin complaints.
