With the number of people I know now getting the flu, very relieved I got the flu/covid combo in September vs waiting on my flu until October like I usually do. (I wanted to make sure my immune system was travel ready at the end of October.)

Yeah, I only ordered from Pike vs delivery from Miller because it was on my way home. It was good, definitely “taco meat” vs ground beef, so was good on that front. The tater fries lose a bit in translation. Not a fav special, but delicious. Sad they’re not offering a churro dessert special.

I picked one up from Pike around 5 on my way back from errands. But it does not surprise me to see them sold out on Friday night of the first week they’re on the menu.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

i wasn’t looking for a man to be my protector, i was looking for backup flaminghydra.com/gentlemen-an...
"What the hell was that?" I asked. "Why didn't you say anything?"
"You expect me to pick a fight with a crazy person?"
"No!" Even I could hear myself sounding hysterical.
"I don't expect you to pick a fight with a crazy person, I expect you to say something for me!"
My friend had a point. If a guy is so determined to own the sidewalk that he'll literally behave like a rabid animal about it, he might indeed take any remark about his behavior amiss, perhaps even as an invitation to fight. But I had a point, too. As long as my friend said nothing on my behalf, the lone man correctly figured it was just him against some girl. He could take me. We both knew it. I wasn't looking for a protector; I was looking for backup. For someone to take my hand and assure me that whatever happened, it would not be one against one.

Judith is a smug bitch, as well she should be.
Judith with the Head of Holofernes" by Peter Paul Rubens: A dramatic Baroque oil painting featuring a close-up, half-length view of the biblical heroine Judith and her older maid servant immediately following the decapitation of Holofernes. Judith stands on the left, looking upward toward a soft overhead light source with a serious, resolute expression. She has curly blonde hair adorned with pearls, wears a low-cut crimson and white gown, and holds a heavy sword upright in her right hand. To the right, her elderly maid, clad in dark drapery and a headscarf, leans in with a wide-eyed, tense expression. The maid holds open a dark sack into which Judith’s left hand is lowering the severed, bearded head of Holofernes. The background is cast in deep, dramatic shadows, emphasizing the rich textures and intense emotions of the figures.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Thinking about all of the delightful art created depicting Judith this week.
Judith with the Head of Holofernes by Lucas Cranach the Elder

“In this powerful portrayal of Judith, the heroine of the Old Testament, Cranach depicts her as victorious after she beheads Holofernes, the Assyrian general besieging her city. Juxtaposing serene beauty with a gruesome triumph, she is elegantly dressed in a contemporary red velvet gown trimmed with brocaded fabric and a pearl-embroidered trunk. She holds the enemy’s head with her slashed gloves, which reveal her lavish rings. Her gentle face, with the delicate features typical of the artist, is framed by the golden halo of her hair and by jewel-encrusted necklaces.“

If we’re not going to get new light rail in Seattle for decades because of poor planning by Sound Transit, as a city we need to do the work to optimize use of the stations we now have. We have learned so many lessons over the years—you see it when you look at Judkins Park TOD vs Mt Baker. And yet.

I’m not the first to say this, but that we got a station a Pinehurst before the infill station at Graham is telling. I’m also tired of the discussion about needing to replace 1:1 with parkland the public golf courses that are currently well located to our light rail stations. Laws can be changed.

This whole discourse is so confusing to me. From my experience we don’t have any of the same opportunities for “monoculture” that existed as I was growing up in the 80s and 90s around music in particular. I may have heard this song? I may not have? I honestly have no idea.
