Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

What on earth is happening?
This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. One man who worked in search and rescue had been beaten unconscious and hospitalised, recognised for TV interviews he had done.

If the gilt market really is as sensitive to extra issuance as a lot of excitable commentators seem to think it is, what do they think happens to yields if the economy goes into a deep recession and the government deficit doubles?

It is pretty emblematic of the Uk state that the BoE is selling gilts at historically high yields and a historically steep curve because admitting that you have to change in response to events is somehow bad for your institutional credibility.

There’s no way the BoE would be selling these gilts if they were on the hook for the losses they crystallise. Reeves should order Bailey to stop the sales. Or find herself a governor who will.
