All I'm saying is that there are times when a stiffly-worded letter just won't cut it
Oscar Parkes painting featuring HMS Lord Clive doing something unspeakable to something a very long way away with its massive 18" gun, and the even more absurdly massive turret built to hold it. It's in the nature of monitors to look ungainly (the other is GUN) but the Lord Clives took it further than most. Despite the huge bulk of the ship the gun still looks too big for it.

Many people are unaware that there were black sailors in the Royal Navy during the age of sail. If you mention it they assume you must have searched desperately to find some representation. But do you know who really wanted to ensure these sailors were represented? People at the time.

Surprised there isn't a greater interest in AR over FPV VR. The latter while immersive is expensive and technically demanding in maintenance and reliability. AR on the other hand affords multiple access and potentialy different selected experiences depending on the users demand in the same space.

Nothing new here if you're on the coal face. The issue is encouraging museums (trustees) to invest their funds in these mediums. Footfall, physical and digital is symbiotic and both are needed to sustain and promote your museum and improve both physical and intellectual access to your collections.

It's easy to view history in a detached sort of way, just an abstract series of dates and events, but I've had a lot of comments on my Elizabeth Howe video from her descendants, and it really struck me that it's never just something that happened a long time ago. It's real.

9th January 1941. First flight of the prototype Avro Type 683 Manchester III - soon to become the Lancaster. Almost 7,400 ‘Lancs’ were built, becoming the backbone of Bomber Command. Along with the Halifax and Mosquito, its contribution was critical as the RAF night offensive intensified. 🧵 1/10

December 21st, 1941. The Royal Navy’s first escort carrier, HMS Audacity, was torpedoed and sunk by U-751. Her Martlet fighters had proved effective in deterring U-Boat attacks and Condor reconnaissance flights. 73 men died; among the 225 survivors was future test pilot Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown. 🧵1/5

It's #TankTuesday or, in this case, #TankTechnologyTuesday ! The 1930s saw huge advances in tank development & technologies. All tank-building nations tried new ideas to see how useful they might be. One such idea was the German Auslegearm für Flakabwehr, or 'AA MG outrigger mount'. 1/
A black & white photo of a German PzKw III Ausf. B. We are looking at the vehicle from a 10 o'clock view. The vehicle has 8 small roadwheels, similar in appearance to the PzKw IV. The vehicle is very neat and clean. In the commander's cupola on the turret turret is a German officer. A crew member is sat in the loader's hatch on the left side of the tank.

A yellow arrow has been added to the photo to point out the metal traiangular frame on the left side of the superstructure. This is the Auslegearm für Flakabwehr, the subject of the thread.
