🌱 #insectThursday A beautiful pink Zinnia for you this morning. If you look closely, there is a tiny fly on the petals. I have zoomed in on the second picture so you can see it clearly. I have a friend coming for lunch. She is the only person on the planet that has known me all my life!
A pink Zinnia with many petals. At the top of the flower is a tiny black insect. A closeup of the insect showing that it is a fly.

🪶 Good Morning, Happy Monday Everyone! Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #BlueSkies; any bird against a blue sky Alt. is #BadWeather; any bird in inclement conditions - A Peregrine Falcon in flight - A Goldfinch in the rain #ECK #birdphotography #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #BlueskyMonday
A Peregrine Falcon flying in a clear blue sky. The bird is centre of the shot, flying towards the camera and to the right. It is visible from underneath and its wings are slightly folded in a downward beat.
It has a dark head with a hooked beak, whitish cheeks and throat and a prominent malar stripe (or moustache) running down the side of its face. Its underbelly is creamy white and covered in black steaks/dots. The outer fatehrsnon the wings are black and the yellow legs are tucked in under its tail.
The sun is shining in from the right and highlighting the edges of the wings but most of the visible part of the bird is in slight shade. A Goldfinch perched on a small branch in the rain. The bird is slightly right of centre of the frame, it is in side profile; looking left so its left side is visible. Its head is turned towards the camera. There is a decaying branch sticking up from the bottom centre of the shot and a small branch branches off that and to the right, travelling upward in a diagonal direction. Another small branch juts up from the bottom of the right hand corner.
The bird has a bright red mask, with a white ring around it; which itself has a black border. Its beak is pale, short and strong. The back is a warm buff-brown, the wings are black with white tips and a stunning gold-yellow wing bar. The tail is black with white tips and the underbelly is a pale white.
The bird is damp from rainfall and large drops can be seen frozen in the shot. The background is a uniform, out of focus green of woodland.

#BirdOfTheDay Alt. theme is #Vivid I choose a Goldfinch #BirdPhotography #Birds #Nature #Birding #birdwatching #ECK
The image features a close-up, side-profile view of a vibrant European goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) perched amidst a cluster of wild purple flowers.
The bird displays a striking combination of colors. Its head has a distinctive bright red face patch surrounding its light-colored, conical beak. This red patch is bordered by a crisp white band that leads into a solid black crown and nape. Its breast is a soft buff-cream color, transitioning into a warm brown on its back.
The folded wings are predominantly black, marked by a vivid, broad streak of bright yellow. The tail feathers extend downward, showing a black coloration patterned with small white spots near the tips.
It is actively perching, holding onto a green plant stem with its delicate, pale pink feet.

Pic #11 in this #birds thread is a juvenile Goldfinch eating thistle seeds. This adult Goldfinch is also eating seeds, perhaps with some of the pulp, from inside Whitebeam berries. Taken on Friday near Thornwick Bay in Yorkshire, and a contender for #BestOfTheMonth. #BirdOfTheDay #UKWildlife #ECK 🌿
A European Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) perched amidst lots of red berries in in a Whitebeam tree (Sorbus species). The bird’s body is facing towards the right side of the image, while the head is turned a little towards the bird's right and tilted slightly upwards, with the beak partly open. The head is white, with red extending from the base of the upper part of the beak to the front part of the top of the head, and from the base of the lower part of the beak to the throat; between those two areas of red is a patch of black, enclosing the eye. More black can be seen on the back of the head. The chest, flanks, back and the upper parts of the wings are almost coffee-coloured, while the wing is black with some whitish blotches and a bright golden-yellow bar. The belly (also the feathers on the upper parts of the legs) is white. The beak of the Goldfinch is a pale pink colour and is somewhat longer than those of other finches, and with a sharper, more pointed tip - an adaptation for seed extraction. This bird appears to be using his or her beak to open up the Whitebeam berries to reach the seeds, and possibly also the orangey-coloured pulp, inside - bits of pulp can be seen stuck to the beak.

🌱 #flowersonFriday Spotted in West Hampstead yesterday, a huge Oleander bush covered in pink flowers. I used to think it was too tender to grow outside in Britain but I have seen a few examples in London this summer, looking beautiful and coping well with the heat and drought.
A huge shrub overhanging a brick wall and almost blocking out the house behind. It is covered with pink flowers. A close up of the pink flowers. Each one has five petals, flatted on the edge and looking like the twisted blades of a fan. The leaves are long and pointed.
