The jackals are out, as they usually are for a woman who speaks up in a way that challenges patriarchy. (And a lot of why victims don't come forward or withdraw--as a Weinstein victim did--is because the misogynist public and legal system launch their own punitive assaults.)

Trans+ Inclusive Fieldwork Guidelines
Transgender (trans+) researchers face substantial inequity and risk when undertaking fieldwork. The guidelines focus specifically on the inclusion of the lives and identities of trans+ researchers, expanding on the PRIDE Fieldwork Guidelines*. The guidelines were created through a series of focus groups with trans+ researchers and self-described allies, as part of the Pathways: Participatory Approaches to Trans-Inclusive Field Research project. The project was facilitated by and developed in collaboration with Dr Robin Hayward, a trans science communicator and scientist, who consulted on the trans-inclusivity of the project throughout. The project was led by Professor Martin Zebracki, in collaboration with Dr Tilen Kolar, and was funded by the Research England Enhancing Research Culture Fund. * Zebracki, M., Hayward, R., Gill, F., Wimpenny, S., Watson, C.S. & Brown, H. Wanna go dancing? The Bower has r&b + hiphop on Fridays, disco + house Saturdays. Reserve a table at info@thebower.ca. Totally worth going early (9-10) & dominating the dance floor before the young'uns stream in at 11 - 12 lol. Small cover after 10pm cash only, though you can use cards at the bar.

Near campus and good for largish groups (make a reservation): Tansen Izakaya (though better Japanese food is at the smaller DoRinKu Tokyo). Chinese dumplings at Mr. Bun on Whyte Ave (where there are lots of food places that cater to international college students in the hood).

Near campus: Sugarbowl is a well loved eatery & happy hour (2-6pm) destination with an excellent local beer menu. Earl's is also popular though more corporate & expensive. Highlevel Diner is well-loved for brunch. Excellent take-out sandwich places include District Cafe and Farrow.

For food on north campus: Dewey's is the on-campus no-frills pub with a couple of pool tables. The food is meh at best but it is a good place to hide upstairs or in a corner while u finish writing yr conference talk over a beer. Various food stalls at HUB Mall & CAB. Indian stall at HUB has dosas 👅

From 4S President Wen-Hua Kuo's last message to the Society membership, showing the gradual decrease in dominance of US and UK membership and the gradual diversification of members in respect to country of origin or residence.
Two graphs, spanning 4-year chucks from 1976 to 2024. First graph show the number of countries represented in 4S Council, and second shows the number of US members of Council during that period. There were 3 countries represented and 88 U.S. council members in 1976-1980, 4 countries and 74 U.S.-ians in 1981-85, 6 countries and 53 U.S.-ians in 1986-90, 5 countries and 60 U.S.-ians in 1991-95, 6 countries and 40 U.S.-ians in 1996-200, 6 countries and and 53 U.S.-ians 2001-05, 7 countries and 36 U.S.-ians in 2006-10, 8 countries and 47 U.S.-ians in 2011-15, 12 countries and 37 U.S.-ians in 2016-20, and 12 countries and 35 U.S.-ians in 2021-24. The caption explains that "Council tenure lasts 3 years, but council memebrs are renewed in different years. We considered a period of 5 years to capture its changing composition."

Loved the Perusall social annotation platform when it was first developed and use it for many of my classes. This year, they "redesigned" the interface and it is *so* much worse. Many crucial features gone and replaced with clunky systems that don't match real-world teaching/learning/grading needs.
