Confs: Particles in Interaction
This conference welcomes papers that take an interactional approach to particles in talk-in-interaction by analyzing recordings of social interaction. By particles we mean small uninflected lexical items such as interjections, modal particles and fixed multi-word expressions which do not contribute to the propositional content of an utterance but instead have interactional and discursive functions. They are used for such things as regulating the interaction, expressing the speaker’s stance, and

As a conversation analyst, I end up formulating my response to the reviewers as if it was an analysis... Like "In response to A's request for X, I provide" etc. 🐦🐦

Oh gosh. Today I'm giving a lecture on the history of the field of SLA (second language aquisition). What a mess! One backlash after another. My favourite is still the Social Turn that happened in 1996 at an AILA conference in Jyväskylä, Finland. Quoting Diane Larsen-Freeman (2007: 773) 👇

This is one of the informative things I remember from student politics. Experiencing that different universities implement the same law in different ways, proving that a less stupid way is possible.

🥰"This volume makes a pivotal contribution to grammar studies. Given that Conversation Analysis and Descriptive Grammars are strongly compatible in their focus on language in use, an integration of the twin central analytical approaches challenges structuralist grammar under traditional rubrics." 🐦🐦
