Feeling awful. Have taken an aspirin and gone to bed with a hot water bottle. Pumpkin spice candle has been lit. Cosy. 🍂🍃🎃🍎🍂

This town used to be full of people who cared about what the place looked like. Yes it was annoying in some ways, but if you're the now majority who are willing to let everything slide the place ends up looking like a shit hole and that's even worse.

Have ordered two bespoke grafted heritage trees for planting in December next year. Very cool that someone is going to be making them for me. (Grafting specific varieties onto specific rootstock).

Wherever I have lived in the last 20 years, there's been a neighbour named Kevin. I am starting to think I may have murdered a Kevin in my previous life and now I am being haunted by Kevins.

Thinking about an old friend (no longer in contact since life had other ideas). She was so enthusiastic about things, people in a gossipy sort of way, but never judgemental. Always knew what was going on with people, always had words of advice. Put a huge smile on my face.

Why do we give clocks and pocket watches as retirement gifts? Congrats on spending the best years of your life working. Here's a clock so you can count down the hours you still have left on earth.

Part of the fun of being a parent to a young kid in your 40s is when they come home from primary school with some mind-blowing fact or other that you've never even heard before but which is now BEING TAUGHT IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

How about £million fines for each act of AI illegally hacking gov systems. They can afford it and governments would benefit. An alternative billionaire tax.

Initially, male geologists & university professors publicly ridiculed them, dismissively labeling their methods "bug hunting." But by 1931, a staggering 75% of all US oil wells relied on the very techniques they pioneered....so ofc their fundamental role was severely downplayed. #WomenInSTEM

I’m old enough to remember when the then PM was siding with conspiracy theorists and the then leader of the Labour Party was telling London’s mayor to think again on ulez expansion. These kids deserved better politicians. Luckily they got one in their mayor

Thomas Edison in 1910. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves on this net zero business, lads
Someday some fellow will invent a way of concentrating and storing sunshine to use instead of this old, absurd Prometheus scheme of fire.
I'll do the trick myself if someone doesn't get at it....
This scheme of combustion in order to get power makes me sick to think of—it is so wasteful.... We should utilize natural forces and thus get all of our power. Sunshine is a form of energy, and the winds and the tides are manifestations of energy. Do we use them? Oh no; we burn up wood and coal, as renters burn up the front fence for fuel.
We live like squatters, not as if we owned the property. There must surely come a time when heat and power will be stored in unlimited quantities in every community, all gathered by natural forces. Electricity ought to be as cheap as oxygen, for it cannot be destroyed.
Now, I am not sure but that my new storage battery is the thing. 167

Binge-watched Them series 1. It's so good. The way it expresses the fear of being under constant threat, but also the rage that accompanies it. Phenomenal acting. Now on to series 2.

Doing a tree survey tomorrow and the previous survey pretty much says 'fell a bunch of trees because they're annoying'. Curious position but not hugely uncommon from a particular area of the industry.

Victorian housing in the 1970s was in a dire state because, until 1977, mortgage lenders wouldn't lend on property built before 1914. As a result councils bought huge areas for "slum clearance" & became derelict. After 1977, mortgages became available and such areas were very rapidly transformed.

The neighbours regularly chop down their wisteria on the boundary wall to stop it taking over but this year it's managed to entangle itself in the Portuguese laurel and is now reaching out for the pollarded ash. I'm a little intimidated by its vigour and determination.
