Regarding the new paper by Giacomo Gobbo and others on *that* Camarasaurus skull (that is, the one with the soft tissue preserved around the snoot), a useful visual guide of what the authors therin describe. Paper link below.
Visual description of the typical models of skin, tooth, and jaw for the four groups represented here.

Labels point to different tissues, I've just not labels bone. Ooops.

1st, a typical sauropsid, like a lizard or mouse. Soft labile skin on the outside, thick, squishy gums on the inside.

2nd, a crocodilian. Thick, rough skin on the outside, and mostly squishy gums on the inside. The skin around the teeth itself are both gum and skin, and they can be pretty "corny."

3rd, the Gobbo model, which supposes the outer layer of the cornified dermis is a sheet, like a beak, and extends further than the jaw margin, forming a pseudobeak of sorts, or an "odontoscutum," or tooth-scale. Otherwise, soft skin on the outside, but inside you have normal squishy dermis, and the authors suppose the teeth are confined to a much more cornified dense gum. This is not that dissimilar to crocs, but it's much more similar to turtles.

Lasty and 4th, birds and some turtles, in which the soft skin is mostly covered on the outside by a set of cornified sheets that form a ridged beak, or rhamphotheca, with the gum being either super soft in parts, or super hard, cornified.

Drawing in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of an Onagadori rooster with long flowing tail covert feathers on a plum blossom branch. The rooster's comb and wattle are the only spots of red. Today's four random pieces of palaeoart: Giovanni Caselli's Iguanodon, Donna Braginetz' Giraffatitan, @cmkosemen.bsky.social's Ticinosuchus and Tanystropheus, and Jan Sovák's Ornithomimus!
A pair of grey-blue Iguanodon with purple splotches and crenulated backs locked in a mating embrace. One is crouched quadrupedally, arms in a push-up pose, while the other stands astride it with its left leg arched over its partners hips. Both have smooth, mostly textureless skin marked by occasional wrinkles or folds, concentrated into concentric rings on the lower limbs.A broad-chested, svelte-necked Giraffatitan with sandy brown skin strides across a plain, backed by the needle-thin trunks of conifer trees. A Ticinosuchus with a dark, inky hide grapples with a long-necked Tanystropheus, which curls its long neck toward its attacker in futile resistance. A trio of rubbery-skinned, hyper-gracile Ornithomimus surround a lizard in a steamy, tropical forest. A large adult zooms from the right, its blue-tinted head preparing to snag the little reptile. A second, younger Ornithomimus reacts aggressively to the adult. The third rests beside them, head dipped like a sleeping bird.

Today's four random pieces of palaeoart: Bernard Long's Andrewsarchus, Brian Franczak's Nanotyrannus, Dmitry Bogdanov's Edaphosaurus, and Steve Kirk's Apatosaurus!
A long, low-slung, wolf-like Andrewsarchus with a coat resembling a red fox. It trots across a rocky hill carrying a bone in its toothy jaws.A pair of gracile, small tyrannosaurs stand in a tangled forest. One looks in the direction of the viewer, while the other looks off at something out of view. One has a pattern composed of chocolate brown and creamy white, while the other complements this with a blue throat, yellow brow, and black-streaked head. A green Edaphosaurus with a bright red sail rests atop an outcrop in a steamy swamp. A forest of enormous horsetails forms a backdrop.A hefty, blue-grey Apatosaurus walks through a sandy clearing in a cycad forest. Its broad neck sweeps to its left, taking notice of some low-lying greenery. Its whip-like tail flicks behind it, moving in sinuous curls.
