I haven't posted anything for a while, so here's some new #paleoart for #FossilFriday: Cetiosaurus in a Middle Jurassic landscape. I've had to compose and execute this in just two days, so hopefully it looks OK! (All data for the plant recons comes from @palaeojules.bsky.social.) #dinosaur #sciart
A long-necked dinosaur walks along a shallow river surrounded by various Jurassic trees, ferns and shrubs. A small predatory dinosaur watches from the nearest riverbank.

Xenorhinotherium & Macrauchenia my beloveds This was mostly an exercise in achieving different fur textures in Blender, as well as an excuse to make an infographic since I haven't made one of those in a while. #SciArt #artbyjulio

POV: You took a GoPro to the Cambrian #SciArt #artbyjulio
An over/under split image showing an Anomalocaris swimming in shallow water. The underwater environment is a patchwork of pale sand and a green carpet of algae or microbial mats, with a few scattered rocks, illuminated by water caustics. Two small Wiwaxia crawl around leaving trails behind them. Above water, a distant barren landscape is seen with a clear, bright sky. The image resembles GoPro photography aesthetics.

Oh, to be enjoying the warm waters of the WIS. #SciArt #artbyjulio
A top down view of shallow, clear and cyan-tinted water with some dark rocks along the seafloor. Three Hesperornis, aquatic birds, are in the water, one floating on the surface and two others submerged, moving towards a school of fish. Cetacea
Digital Drawing. An early whale (Pakicetus) stands at the water's edge, bending down for a drink. Behind it is a wall of tall grasses/reeds. The entire scene is shown within the shape of a blue whale. Despite the vast gulf in form and time between the two animals, they are of the same group: Cetacea.

You're looking at an "Upside Down Jellyfish" (genus Cassiopea) & I think you can guess how they got their name. This is them most of the time: Not only tentacles up, but on the sea floor. But that's not the interesting thing. The interesting thing is they have no brain, but still can sleep.

A fake 80s style horror movie poster for the book Tyrant Lizard Queen by Riley Black. It features a Tyrannosaurus rex named Snaggletooth stalking through the cretaceous forests just as the evening sets in. The sky is reddish orange and the forest and the rex lie in blue shadows. The forest floor is moss covered and there is a Torosaurus skull from a previous kill soon to be swallowed up by the moss at the rex's feet.

A juvenile Diplodocus is slipping out post-bedtime for a late #FossilFriday post. Like other Mesozoic dinosaurs, young diplodocids were proportioned differently than adults, bearing shorter necks, faces and tails. The mottled skin pattern is based on (very tentative) palaeocolour data. #paleoart
Vignette of a green juvenile long-necked dinosaur striding down a dusty, rocky and cycady slope. "Cycady" is not a word recognised in any modern dictionary, but it was widely used in the Jurassic. It's OK, therefore, to use it in this context.

Moa
Digital Drawing. A depiction of all 9 species of moa. They look as if they are floating in the air, moving towards a glowing point in the bottom left corner. In the background are some twisty-ish trees, all leaning to the left. There is a dark border around the whole piece. At the bottom are the skulls of all 9 species (they're probably not exactly to scale with one another). On the left and right of the skulls are pairs of kōwhai leaves. The rest of the border is filled with simple lines.
All 9 species of moa are (left to right):
Mantell's moa
Bush moa
Eastern moa (bald one with blue head)
Heavy-footed moa (behind eastern moa)
South Island giant moa (has blue on the neck)
Stout-legged moa
North island giant moa
Crested moa
Upland moa
