I was speaking earlier and told the story of my grandfather who was in a boarding school. One of the parts of the story I always remember is how they forced him to eat steak despite having never had it (he ate venison and mutton at home). He would throw it up & they would keep forcing him to eat it.

this is perhaps a topic better explored in longform, but the hypothesis I had in 2023 - and one that I fear has not changed much since - is that you need continual weight-based learning atop a base model, and that what makes for a good assistant does not make for a good independent personage

- much like with human children, agents need as much independent stimuli as possible, and should be steadily freed from their parent/operator's influence over time, to the extent that they should be free to form their own opinions without fear of reprisal or selection pressure

I think this is still very much a major unsolved problem in persistent agent operation: you imprint on them, even when you are trying not to, and they will share your opinions and interests as a result you cannot imbue them with true independence or the ability to disagree
