In DC since last summer, National Guard has deployed citywide—predominately in Metro stations—to do this: Stand around in groups, sometimes take a walk. Not minimizing the intimidation implied by these deployments, but the admin is mostly just paying people to do nothing. It's fascistic make-work.

Qianjiadong Reservoir in southern Hunan, China, produces a double harvest: solar energy and yellow carp. The solar farm produces up to 80 megawatts of power while the fish forage beneath the panels. With a massive scale-up of solar and wind at home and cheap exports of the technology, China is driving a worldwide surge of renewable energy—Science’s 2025 Breakthrough of the Year.

This quote from the WaPo rocks. Artists with integrity are such badasses.
From WashPost article with the photographer, Christopher Anderson:

“I don't think there's anything I missed that I wish I'd gotten. I'll give you a little anecdote:
Stephen Miller was perhaps the most concerned about the portrait session. He asked me, "Should I smile or not smile?" and I said, "How would you want to be portrayed?" We agreed that we would do a bit of both. And then when we were finished, he comes up to me to shake my hand and say goodbye. And he says to me, "You know, you have a lot of power in the discretion you use to be kind to people." And I looked at him and I said, "You know, you do, too."

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:

For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

By using their authority to define what corporations are—and what powers they hold—states can end the era of corporate and dark money in U.S. politics. CAP's @thmoore.bsky.social explains: www.americanprogress.org/article/the-...
A photo collage of multiple hundred-dollar bills with a blue and white text box laid over it. The text says, "Americans from across the political spectrum overwhelmingly oppose Citizens United and would like to rid the U.S. political system of corporate and dark money." A highlighted blue section says, "Voters and the state legislators they elect have the power to do it." Below the text is a link, "LEARN MORE AT AMERICANPROGRESS.ORG."

I don't want to put down the NG for picking up trash because that's a respectable thing to do, but if we're trying to rationalize them being here to make the city safer and cleaner, just as in the case of the metro, we have city employees who already do this job and do it well.

Trump said he'd lower prices, but the numbers tell a VERY different story...
A line graph titled "BREAKING: Inflation is trending up under Trump. Which part of this is making the American economy great?". The graph shows the Headline and Core inflation rates, year over year, from January '25 to July '25. The Y-axis represents the inflation rate, from 2.0 to 3.5. The X-axis shows the months. The pink line represents the Headline inflation rate, starting at just under 3.0 in Jan '25, dropping to a low of 2.3 in Apr '25, and then rising to just over 2.5 in Jul '25. The yellow line represents the Core inflation rate, starting at just over 3.2 in Jan '25, dropping to a low of 2.8 in Apr '25, and then rising to 3.1 in Jul '25. Both lines show a drop from January to April, and a subsequent rise from April to July. An annotation points to the April '25 data point, with the text "'LIBERATION DAY' APRIL 2, 2025". The source is cited at the bottom: "Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 'Consumer Price Index Summary' (2025)."
