Language is ontologically significant. It doesn't just describe reality, it creates it. We are not powerless. We can always refuse to speak the language of the far-right, and we should demand that others do the same. So call it out. Speak a different language, and make them listen. 9/9

The 'mildly controversial or provocative mainstream right-wing commentary' is the language of our government, the language of power, and it has a direct connection to radicalisation. To begin even seeing far-right extremism as a threat, those in power would have to first look in the mirror. 6/

Condemning riots isn't enough. We need policy action, including an immediate appraisal of X as a vehicle for coordinating far-right disorder. And we need political leadership, to challenge white nationalism as an idea, not to validate it daily and then complain when it turns violent.

Fear, hate and racism whipped up by ugly politicians and irresponsible media. With Musk’s X spreading the word and organising their fascist foot soldiers. This is the rage that Farage called for. These are his people. This is his racist, hateful, angry Britain. app.independent.co.uk/2026/06/10/2...
Photo: Firefighters work to extinguish a fire in three cars parked on the street at Tigers Bay (Reuters)

Racists, online and in person, including politicians, have been showing us all what their real agenda is.
Far-right online figures, racist elements in England and the US have used Monday's events to justify spreading their poison.
People who know nothing of Belfast and probably have never been here are using what has happened to their own advantage.Whether that is politicians speaking out of both sides of their mouths or online scumbags cynically capitalising on events to try to make a point.
The "protect our women and girls" crowd have thought nothing of being all sorts of abusive to journalists like me.
It is so depressing to see burning barricades and to know that non-white people are in fear for their lives because casually racist characters online and in the real world are frothing at the mouth to spread their hate.

The Far Right riot in Belfast last night was nothing less than “a race-based pogrom”, Belfast MP and leader of the SDLP Claire Hanna said. The mob hunted down non-whites and set fire to their homes. Carl Whyte, a local councillor, called it “a hard Far Right element”.

“Reform has the most extreme policy on energy and climate the UK has seen since modern science on the subject began. The party opposes solar; it opposes wind; it opposes batteries… Once again: Reform is largely funded by fossil fuels” Private Eye on the anti-thought, pro-corruption threat of Reform
MELTING TICE

RICHARD TICE, Reform
UK's deputy leader and spokesman on energy and climate, made an extraordinary appearance on Bloomberg's Zero podcast last week. A few things soon became clear: firstly, he hasn't read the science.

Tice claims the UK. is "almost
unilaterally" beggaring itself by choosing low-carbon power (tell that to China, building hundreds of gigawatts of solar and wind each year). He hasn't read the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) summary for policymakers. He says "thousands" of scientists disagree with accepted climate science but wouldn't - couldn't? - name any scientists who'd advised him.

He thinks net zero will bankrupt Britain (jobs in clean energy are growing faster than much of the rest of the economy). He threatened to walk out twice - once when presented with the IPCC's summary. When asked about batteries, which store solar and wind power safely and cheaply until the evening peak, he said: "We don't need batteries. It's ridiculous."

Reform UK has the most extreme policy on energy and climate the UK has seen since modern science on the subject began. The party opposes solar; it opposes wind; it opposes batteries, for God's sake. Its policy is "drill, drill, frack Lincolnshire".
Once again: Reform
is largely funded by fossil fuels.

The main defence Tice wielded was that the IPC recently abandoned its always implausible
"RCP8.5" scenario - the worst-case, which predicted coal use doubling or tripling this century.
İronically, Tice himself is the British politician who would do more than anything else to bring about that polluted world.

"First off, I'm going to say that some things are bigger than football, and this is one of those things. Jason is one of our leaders," Carter said.

"But if he chooses to align himself with a man like President Trump, it's my responsibility based on what I believe and what I stand on to not only show my teammates that I'm against that, but to show the world.
