🤒😡 This literally isn't cool anymore. Kudos to @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social as it takes some discipline to formulate such numbers in levelheadedness (yes that's a word). For decades, the global ocean absorbed excess energy and, thus, buffered atmospheric effects. When this stops ... .

US FCC: “let’s do a consultation on how the community feels about this” Community: “we hate it, don’t do it, it’s real bad, this will impact a lot of people — astronomers, biodiversity, Indigenous communities, more” x 1800 responses FCC: “lol, we don’t care. APPROVED.”
But to expand the technology, Reflect Orbital envisions operating over 50,000 satellites by 2035, effectively surrounding the Earth with a fleet of mirrors. The proposal has faced stiff pushback from environmental groups and astronomers concerned that the satellites will unleash intrusive light pollution. The opposition has been so strong that the FCC received over 1,800 public comments on the application, many of them objecting to Reflect Orbital’s plan for Earendil-1.

I made a 51k ride this morning, /w temperature profiling in mind. ➡️ Relative #Cooling effect of the Kottenforst woods near #Bonn (here at ~40–46 km): >5 Kelvin! (blue line). At 39km: asphalt-rich settlement; 48km: mixed village; 50km: suburbs /w lots of green. Backfill: altitude range 200m
An overlay showing altitude and temperature plotted over cycling distance. The temp curve shows notable local peaks and lows that can be associated with hot asphalt rich settlements and cooler woodland segments during the ride
