I am not in favor of the death penalty in general, and I think we need to be really careful with how we allow suicide in prisons because there will be innocent people unfairly convicted who just want out. BUT I'm not sure why we disallow suicide for people who are clearly guilty. We want vengeance?

HUGE: President Obama has endorsed Abdul El-Sayed. “This country belongs to all of us. Not just the wealthy or well-connected—everyone. That idea is under attack, and Michigan is where we fight back. That’s why I’m asking you to support Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate.”
President Obama is shown on the left, smiling in a suit. On the right, Abdul El-Sayed is wearing a black shirt and smiling at the camera. Text below reads: "Michigan Senate update: President Obama endorses Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate in Michigan."

BREAKING: Trump administration cut down more than 500 trees on Saturday at the East Potomac Golf Course after giving less than a full-day notice, with more tree-cutting planned, so plaintiffs challenging the effort went to court seeking a TRO tonight. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
EMERGENCY MOTION FOR A TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER OR, ALTERNATIVELY, FOR A 14-DAY STAY UNDER SECTION 705 OF THE
ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE ACT
Plaintiffs hereby move the Court to enter a 14-day temporary restraining order under Rule
65(b) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure or, alternatively, for a 14-day stay under 5 U.S.C.
§ 705.

forward and we can't, you know, stop the trains," Status Conf. Tr. ("Apr. 13 Tr.") at 18:15-19:10,
Apr. 13, 2026, Defendants have begun irreversible damage to East Potomac Golf Course. At
4:55 p.m. on Friday preceding the holiday weekend, Defendants announced their intent to
begin-barely 12 hours later—a massive operation to clear 529 trees at East Potomac Golf
Course. Decl. of Dr. Kevin Griess, Superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks,
National Park Service 920, ECF 74-1. Although they initially represented that their work would proceed in stages, Defendants in fact took down 529 trees on Saturday alone and have confirmed
to Plaintiffs that they intend to take down hundreds more.
Defendants' surprise tree-razing operation constitutes classic National Environmental
Policy Act segmentation: undertaking elements of a larger project piecemeal and insisting that they are independent and therefore need not be evaluated in a single NEPA review of the entire
project. Defendants cannot circumvent their NEPA obligations in this manner. Delaware
Riverkeeper Network v. F.E.R.C., 753 F.3d 1304, 1313 (D.C. Cir. 2014).Therefore, and for the reasons explained in the Memorandum accompanying this Motion
and supporting exhibits, the Court should enter a 14-day temporary restraining order under Rule
65(b) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure or, alternatively, a 14-day stay under 5 U.S.C.
§ 705, enjoining Defendants from any further tree felling at East Potomac Park. In addition, the
Court should order Defendants to provide the Court and Plaintiffs no less than three business days' written advance notice before any irreparable modification to any permanent forms or
features of East Potomac Park.
If the Court believes a hearing would be appropriate, Plaintiffs request a hearing on this
motion at the Court's first availability. At the parties' meet and confer on Sunday afternoon, Defendants represented that the tree-clearing operation would continue this week until
completed. Defendants indicated during the meet and confer that rain foreclosed any work on

Recommendations from the Journals Working Group of the Association for Human Mathematics just dropped: Venues that disseminate scientific publications should give authors *choice* and *consent* in whether and how LLM-based systems are used during the referee process. www.ahmath.org/recommendati...
Preliminary Recommendations from the Journals Working Group

Venues that disseminate scientific publications - such as journals, conferences, and preprint servers - should give authors choice and consent in whether and how LLM-based systems are used during the referee process. Prior to manuscript submission, such scientific venues should clearly communicate whether, and in precisely what way, LLM-based systems will be used during review, manuscript typesetting, and all other stages of the publication process. This commitment to transparency and the rights of authors applies equally to scientific venues themselves and to any third parties involved with the venue, such as editors, referees, and third-party copy-editing services. Authors should have the right to refuse this without being prejudiced in any way in the reviewing process.

Published in 1887 as part of Kawanabe Kyōsai’s monumental Kyōsai Gadan Gaihen (Kyōsai’s Treatise on Painting, External Volume), this woodblock print presents an observational study (shasei) capturing the varied postures, temperaments, and fleeting gestures of domestic cats (neko).
Five felines populate the composition in dynamic arrangement: in the upper right, a tabby stares with wide, inquisitive eyes, its paw poised mid-step; in the upper left and center right, two cats rest with tightly closed eyes in soft slumber; in the center left, a cat gazes forward with a rounded, serene expression; and along the bottom, a calico recline on its side, curled in an effortless nap. Executed with microscopic line-carving techniques (furutsu-bori) that render individual strands of fur with remarkable fluidity, the print is subtly accented with delicate washes of pale pink upon ears, noses, and paws. The composition evokes an intimate, tactile sensory atmosphere: the soft, quiet breathing of sleeping felines, the warmth of sun-warmed fur, the subtle scratch of wooden blocks pressing ink onto hand-made paper, and the gentle, domestic calm of an artist's studio suspended in time.
