There can be no doubt that dire poverty alone compels people to abandon their native land, and that the capitalists exploit the immigrant workers in the most shameless manner. But only reactionaries can shut their eyes to the progressive significance of this modern migration of nations.

Great interview with poet and publisher Ryan Skrabalak. Ryan's poetry generates a feeling of warm awe within me and I'm grateful for the access to his thinking this interview gives. He's also one of the people giving essential life to experimental poetry in the US via Spiral Editions.

The new work of poetry by Nicole Raziya Fong is here! SUBTEXT collages the echoes of diasporic and colonial histories through poetry, drama, autobiography, and archival uncovering. SUBTEXT asks readers to negotiate the unsteady shoals of identity and history. talonbooks.com/books/subtext
A spread of copies of SUBTEXT by Nicole Raziya Fong. The cover reads SUBTEXT in all caps in a black, serif font across the top. Blue-grey watercolour brush strokes/marker strokes descend diagonally, taking up most of the cover. Behind this is white. In the bottom in black serif font. The left side is grey and looks stitched.

🗳️ Bronx Teacher Launches NY-15 Campaign to Unseat Ritchie Torres

Andre Easton, a public-school English teacher in the South Bronx and father of three, announced his run for Congress in New York’s 15th District (NY-15) in late October. He describes himself as a socialist running as an independent, focused on housing justice, workers’ rights, and opposition to corporate and pro-Israel donor influence in politics.

Easton’s campaign enters one of the country’s more densely populated and poorest districts, where incumbent Ritchie Torres (D) faces intense criticism from the left, particularly for his support for Israel’s genocide. Former state assemblyman Michael Blake is also running in the Democratic primary, while Jose Vega joins Easton among independent challengers.

➤ NY-15 covers much of the South Bronx, one of America’s poorest urban districts, where housing insecurity and rent burdens dominate local politics. Easton’s platform calls for new public housing and rent capped at 20% of income — and he’s made Palestine a central issue in recent interviews and videos, like below: 👇🇵🇸
Andre Easton
@AndreEastonBX
As a father, a teacher, and someone raised by Jamaican immigrants, I’ve always felt connected to the Palestinian struggle for freedom.

My campaign to unseat Ritchie Torres in NY-15 goes beyond my disdain for organizations like AIPAC.

We need to recognize the humanity of everyone who’s been held back by the system, from the Bronx, to Palestine, to the entire world.

We're excited to announce Cam Scott's sequel of politically-inflected personal collage and city poems, MANOR's RANSOM—the second installment of a life-poem that began with the Lambda-nominated ROMANS SNOWMARE (2019).
Book cover with title MANOR’S RANSOM split between top left and bottom right of page, with Cam Scott at centre bottom. Cover image is a black and white semi-abstract copy collage of repeating elements by Bret Parenteau, featuring a single repeating paved step along a roadway, and a cascading vine shape down the centre

Kenyan activists are being abducted in broad daylight by the police. If you’re a US citizen this is important for you to know because Kenya is a frontline state in the so called “war on terror” and the patterns of abductions and disappearances have their origin in that relationship.
