Why do the insides of cabbages look like The Scream? Or Cthulhu?

Right now I am feeling sorry for the British Museum person/people who piped up in a meeting that the exhibition should have an audio guide, and being shut down by the person saying 'we need to milk this cash cow by giving 1m people 10 seconds each to view the tapestry'

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

Lorrayne before you hit me with that object shaped like a toblerone let me explain… —Hugh McMillan, “The X Files: Bonnybridge, October ’95” published in 𝘈𝘱𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘦’𝘴 𝘈𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘬 (Peterloo, 1996) #poem #poetry #XFiles #TheTruthIsOutThere www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk/poem/x-files...
The X Files: Bonnybridge, October ’95
Hugh McMillan

Lorrayne
before you hit me with that object
shaped like a toblerone
let me explain.
We only went for a half pint and a whisky
then set off home but somehow
lost two hours on a thirty minute journey.
My mind’s a blank
but Brian clearly saw
Aliens with black eyes and no lips
leading us onto a kind of craft.
I tried to lash out, explain that I was late,
but they used some kind of numbing ray on me:
it put me in this state.
Lorrayne, don’t you see what it explains?
All the times I crawled home with odd abrasions.
Put that down Lorrayne,
don’t you see I have to go again,
for the sake of future generations?

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

#FunFact! Right now, 100 trillion neutrinos are piercing your body every second... slipping through the massive empty spaces inside your atoms like they aren’t even there! Learn more about the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics: www.nobelprize.org/prizes/physi...
This infographic by Symmetry magazine features a 3x3 grid centered on the title “NEUTRINOS ARE...”, outlining key properties of neutrinos: they are Fundamental (indivisible particles), Abundant (trillions pass through us every second), Elusive (extremely hard to detect), Oscillating (able to switch between electron, muon, and tau flavors), Lightweight (traveling near the speed of light with near-zero mass), Diverse (created by nuclear reactors, stars, and cosmic processes), Mysterious (hinting at a potential fourth “sterile” neutrino), and Very Mysterious (pondering if they are their own antiparticles).
