You're right, but that didn't bother me as much as the scenes where the entire screen is just technicolor noise. It's paint soup. Gerwig's color is usually great, this is kind of a bummer trailer

This may be in other versions, and maybe other versions I've read, but it still stuck out to me this time. Also, in some versions, Varda only makes some stars, not all of them.

Calliope @gdcalliope.northsky.social · 13/10/2026

Another interesting detail in this version is that Middle-earth's Orion, the constellation, was placed in the sky as a prophecy about Turin Turambar. It's just mentioned offhandedly when the text says Varda made the stars. #TolkienTide

The Trap Of Love sequence was apparently so special to the crew (a CORRECT sentiment, might I add) that it's saved as its own separate file in the production archive, separate from the rest of the episode, bearing the name "Act D Insert". You can view the full storyboard file for Trap of Love HERE:

If it works, that's pretty cool; I didn't think
would ever see this implemented (I also didn't
expect LLMs to exist).
However, this is not something you can PR
here, or anywhere. You sent me a nearly 50k
line diff, unasked for, completely LLM built, and
you somehow expect me to review it. There is
SO MUCH unrelated garbage here. Never
minding all of the docs and Python, you've
somehow touched basically all of the upstream
HDL, which already had MSU1 support, so idk
what in the world you're doing.
This kind of behavior is not acceptable. You are
infringing on the time and brainpower of people
by pushing "your" content that little/no of your
brainpower went into; completely unrequested.
I hope for the sake of all responsible
maintainers that you do not do such a thing
again.
Again, I think it's cool that you and your LLM
supposedly got this to work. It has no place in
my world.

A good fresh Star Trek take on those fake isekai title jokes

A tumblr screenshot showing a post and two reblog responses, reading:
1. "star trek would be the ideal fictional universe to get trapped in because you'd explain your situation and they'd be like yeah makes sense. no further questions. fortunately we can use the mysterious warp signature emitting from this system's icy moon to counterface with the solar radiation and slingshot you back home"
2. "I'm from a universe where your world is all a work of fiction." Benjamin Sisko, nodding. "That happened to me once."

I say "one of" advisedly, as I don't think he settled this question for himself, and I have not read the complete section coming up in a few hundred pages.

120

Calliope @gdcalliope.northsky.social · 03/10/2026

I did peek ahead, and one of the ideas he floated was that they're basically extensions of Morgoth's will. So every orc to ever live was essentially to Morgoth what the ringwraiths were to Sauron. It's why they can talk shit about Sauron. He's not the boss of them. Even when he is.

110

Calliope @gdcalliope.northsky.social · 03/10/2026

it seems as though the nearly universally accepted origin -- "they were elves that Morgoth corrupted" -- is explicitly denied in some of Tolkien's mss. What I mean is he did write that, but then afterwards, he left himself notes that he wanted to change it.

120

Calliope @gdcalliope.northsky.social · 03/10/2026

There appears to be more, later on in the book, about this, so for now, all I can say is that Tolkien was, it turns out, aware of the Problem with the orcs, and explored several ideas related to their origins to tinker with it. #TolkienTide
