terrible news of Perry Mehrling passing. RIP to a wonderful scholar & teacher who demystified the global financial crisis that wrecked a generation. He has left an oeuvre with a powerful message: Money is a hierarchy of promises & payments, anchored by central bank money sites.bu.edu/perry/lectur...

What can we learn from this? Left-behind places also favor more leftist parties, and regional economic deprivation alone is not a sufficient explanation for the success of the radical right.

This is very possibly one of the most important moments in climate politics in our lifetimes. What happens now could range from “difficult UNFCCC conversation starter” to “one thousand op-eds about how loss and damage was always going to fail in this moment, and total loss of trust in UNFCCC”

(Quelle: Berlin.Table)
Textausschnitt:

Modeling teams have their work cur out for them. Many thought the high end model runs were very unlikely to come true. See purple dotted line for the actual El Niño temps for the main 3.4 region, compared to the forecasts from April. The biggest harm will come from underestimating tail risks:

Tightening against an energy price shock is a crude response, that only works if it chokes the economy, and green investment with it. It shouldn't be so controversial for the ECB to accept it.

This might be one of the funniest chart about energy scenarios I’ve seen. You can hardly see “actual” for gas
Winners and Losers
The IEA overestimated gas growth in Asia and underestimated solar

Gas
• Forecast 547 TWh
• Actual 17 TWh

Solar
• Forecast 465 TWh
• Actual 1,333 TWh

Note: Shows expected growth in Asian power generation between 2018 and 2025, based on actual 2018 generation, actual 2025 generation, and the 2018 World Energy Outlook's Current Policies Scenario estimates for 2025. Actual 2025 generation figures are from Ember.
