Excellent article that supports agenda setting theory - ‘the media may not tell us what to think but tells us what to think about’. Also, climate deniers with money and media access have successfully made net-zero controversial having lost the scientific ‘argument’ but the result is the same.

I can’t stress enough: everyone in British politics and media is fully aware that Tony is a deeply corrupt and depraved figure - a relentless suck up to tyrants, mass murderers, criminals and fraudsters, because he craves the money and kudos that gets him from rich people, whom he loves.

We are IMO just stuck forever in a long 2002 because America is *still* trying to enforce its will upon the Middle East and its environs, and because all of the important, intelligent people who made complete and utter cunts of themselves in the 2000s are determined to never admit they fucked up.

None of these people regard the left as a legitimate political actor; they will not tolerate us weilding any kind of power over them; they see us as a problem to be defanged, stomped and marginalised in a way they would never do to e.g. Nigel Farage.

(1)The Guardian has published this by Dave Rich on the (very real) problem of violent antisemitism. But it contains the disgraceful claim anyone saying Israeli forces have deliberately targeted children (presumably Including Guardian reports) are doing "medieval blood libel".
We think of democratic protest and terrorism as two opposing categories of behaviour, but the world is not so neat. Political violence always draws sustenance from a hinterland of ideas and rhetoric shared by many more people who would never pick up a knife or a gun, but who articulate the same grievances.

The belief that Israel is engaged in a “war on children” is common across the pro-Palestine movement, promoted by major NGOs and found in a thousand Instagram reels about genocidal Zionist baby-killers. Without doubt, it is deeply upsetting that thousands of Palestinian children have been killed in Gaza, and many feel that Israel could have done more to minimise civilian casualties. But to describe this not as the result of a tragic and unbearable conflict, but as a “war on children”, is to imply that killing children is the whole point: a charge that echoes the medieval blood libel. From that assumption to Jihad al-Shamie yelling: “This is what you get for killing our children” as he tried to batter down the doors of Heaton Park synagogue last Yom Kippur is not as big a leap as some might wish.

that monbiot tweet is just fucking baffling. he acknowledges that a genocide is happening, i presume he accepts it's being perpetrated by israel - the only zionist state in existence - but he thinks unkind words go to far in confronting a crime against humanity because of the risk of generalisation

it's funny what has been revealed from this incredibly normal story
RAF Fairford has the long runway needed for US B-1 and B-52 bombers to launch. It has played a vital role in the American bombardment of Iran, allowing a much shorter flight time to the country than from bases in the US.

The war, which the US and Israel launched in February, has upended global energy markets and strained relations between Washington and its allies. Iran has responded to strikes in recent months by launching drone attacks across the Gulf.

Trump on Monday warned Iran that it would “suffer greatly” if it had deployed drones in the UK.

"The current level of political animosity is exactly what one would expect to see if an extremist faction attempted to rescind the hard-earned rights of the vast majority of the country’s citizens." There are not enough exclamation points to convey how I felt reading this paragraph
Screenshot of article which reads: From this perspective, the “both sides” frame falls apart. The prob-
lem is not that the parties are divided. The problem is the existential
threat that a reempowered ethnonationalist strain poses to pluralistic
U.S. democracy writ large. The current level of political animosity is
exactly what one would expect to see if an extremist faction attempted
to rescind the hard-earned rights of the vast majority of the country’s
citizens. The only way to re-oppress most of a country is to use anti-
democratic and authoritarian tactics. And the only way to oppose those
tactics is to push back as a population and clearly reject them. This is
the argument happening in the United States, and its pathology is not
anger—it is the movement to undermine a generation of rights.

If combat means living in a ditch, females have biological problems staying in a ditch for 30 days because they get infections and they don't have upper body strength. I mean some do, but they're relatively rare.

"On the other hand, men are basically little piglets, you drop them in the ditch, they roll around in it, it doesn't matter, you know. These things are very real.

"On the other hand, if combat means being on an aegis-class cruiser managing the computer controls for 12 ships and their rockets, a female may again be dramatically better than a male who gets very, very frustrated sitting in a chair all the time because males are biologically driven to go out and hunt giraffes.
