For generations, killer whales and First Nations hunted whales together. Now we suspect the orca group has gone extinct
On New South Wales’ southern coast, First Nations groups and European whalers hunted alongside orcas. But what happened to this unusual group?

Preparing to bake pumpkin bread. Not using the regular loaf pans because where's the fun in that?
Can of pumpkin sits to the side on the kitchen counter while I've set out three cakelet pans atop the stove. The autumn treasures pan has acorns, leaves and pumpkins. Beside it sits a pan with six different gravestones. A cheaper pan with ghosts and jack o'lanterns sits to the rear in case I need a third.

The Constitution allows it. South Korea has proven it works. If you want to make impeachment viable—and so much else is pointless if you don't—then it can be done by a simple majority adopting a simple rules change: vote on the verdict by secret ballot.

A Democratic Senate Should Adopt Secret Impeachment Ballots on a Priority Basis
Such a change, requiring no constitutional amendment, would free senators to vote their judgment instead of their fears

I went through a baking phase a few years ago and have a lot of muffin/cakelet pans. The pineapple cake recipe called for a 10" skillet which I don't have, so instead I used a 9" cake pan and the autumn treasures pan for the remaining batter.

As soon as I polish off the pineapple upside down cake in the fridge I'm making pumpkin cakelets using the autumn treasures (pumpkins, acorns and leaves) and tombstones pans.

Halloween decor. New for this year: Cat and raven painting, witch boot with bouquet, gentleman werewolf wallhanging.
Living room showing office door and mantelpiece. To the right are a Mad Laboratories skull picture and gentleman werewolf wallhanging. Above the door hangs a garland of felt witchy feet. Above the mantelpiece hang a painting of a black cat and raven surrounded by peonies, a Witch Parking Only sign, and a bubbling cauldron labeled Happy Halloween. Standing atop the mantelpiece are a dark bouquet containing surprise eyeballs, a candleholder looking like a clear green cauldron hanging from a frame, a cloche (containing a coffin, raven and skull), a witchy boot holding a bouquet of autumnal flowers, a cat candle, and a raven candlestick.

I am personally shamed to have gotten this far into the month of October before putting up the Halloween decor. At least I did the outside stuff Monday or Tuesday, taking advantage of the rain-softened ground as I spiked things down. Also, we seem to be getting a battery to go with our solar panels.

Plenty of widows, plenty of women dying from intections and other non-childbirth related causes. It took a horrendous amount of time for the population to recover from the Black Death because the death rates were so high even with women having so many children.

There's a fictional over-representation because motherless children are easier to put in plot-related peril. Or see GoT, where *everyone's* mother died in childbirth unless the author had a plot-related use for her.

Yeah, each woman needs to have 5 just to stay at replacement rate, 6 or more for population growth - and there's not an unlimited supply of young women to marry. One man with 3 wives in a lifetime mean 2 other men couldn't marry unless remarriages are to widows - who already had some of their kids

That 30% mortality rate sounds suspiciously high - perhaps lifetime risk, the cumulative total over all a woman's pregnancies, especially with the absence of birth control leading to continual pregnancies. 30% chance of maternal death per pregnancy plus 50% child mortality looks like a population

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.
