whenever I see someone say a remake 'fixed' the original, I just get sad. videogames almost exclusively have such a hostile relationship with their past. classics are simultaneously beloved and loathed, never met with curiosity but resentment that they're not pre-packaged into modern convention.

after seeing it—we probably could have just watched it with my mom lol. enjoyed it, beautifully shot + composed, adored the feverish uncanny castle sequence, but it felt restrained, maybe even a bit hollow. we watched Bram Stoker’s Dracula afterwards and came away satisfied. hornier and bloodier.

started playing the Zero Escape games for the first time. i might just have low standards for VNs, but at least so far, both the nuts-and-bolts plotting and the prose of the localization are *superb.* some of the best non-Ace Attorney localization and tightest structure i’ve ever seen in a game.
