The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

To clarify: I’m not saying that every award is moot, or something that dire. What I AM saying is that a lack of oversight and mismanagement seems to have trickled into many aspects of the org, which sucks for everyone involved, especially authors and people who are actually doing the work in horror.

i agree wholeheartedly. while i was in the hwa, i served on the graphic novel stoker jury twice. complete clown show. i was the only person on the GRAPHIC NOVEL jury that had even made a comic before. i let my membership lapse after that, since, it has become clear that the hwa is festering

I think you should all be demanding refunds for next year’s Stokercon. I also don’t think you should be renewing your memberships. Demand change with your wallet. The HWA requires a massive overhaul and continuing to support them in any way until those steps are made is just enabling corruption.
