It's lovely that the second I start following a bunch of game dev folks I get bombarded with follows by engagement farming bot accounts. After the initial deluge I'm getting around four "follows" a day.

Genuinely furious at Australia right now. The government here just pushed through a hasty bill banning social media for under 16s, ignoring expert advice and over a thousand submissions against the ban from the community. Naturally, there's no explanation of how socmed should verify age. #AusPol

Without context, I honestly thought this was a TWEWY style split screen game and spent far too long trying to figure out how the controls worked… I concluded it must be a co op game. …then I read the text! 😅

I recently replayed Black and I was shocked at how terrible its options menu is. We've come a long way as an industry, but all of that progress cost (and still costs) increasing amounts of time and money. (Actually, think of the increasing timelines of indie games too - time is money is too true!)

Foodstuff @foodstuff.bsky.social · 24/11/2024
To be clear; I don't blame them, to a degree. We live in a society and it's hard to make games and eat when there's no money.

…focus testing their games into a bland paste so they "appeal" to the biggest audience and therefore can recoup their costs. I often speculate that publishers and devs grind their games "one notch lower" just to be sure.

Uh, yes? There’s nothing like playing a classic “good” game and noticing the rough edges and barbs that would be filed off even at an indie level these days. And conversely, non-indie scale games have become so expensive to make that publishers force their studios to play it safe…

Name a game with a 10/10 soundtrack "Instrument of Surrender" gives me chills every time I hear it. It sets the tone better than any text could (and damn if they didn't come close in that department too).

Why is Trump choosing B-list celebs and showboats to lead his government? 🧵 Choosing unserious, unqualified, or "wannabe" appointees to top government jobs is what authoritarian leaders do to secure loyalists in positions of authority. 1/5

The modern video game industry is a f***ing mess. Maybe it corrects, maybe it doesn’t. It’s weird to even think the latter, but no industry is invincible and everything eventually comes to an end. It’s a bloodbath right now, with no resolution in sight.
