As for Fulcher, he agreed to meet with us in 2020. As we were walking into his office he was exiting. We met with a 20ish year old who said he had worked for a “think tank”. As we met, Fox News was blaring on the TV and he didn’t really pay attention.

For 6 years I served on a national board & went to DC to meet with our Congressman reps. Except Risch. He met with us 1 time, talked about how he loved DC, lined us up by height against a backdrop for a picture then “had a meeting” so he couldn’t be bothered to actually meet with us.

Today was amazing. One of our grands came over with her friend and for the first time the neighbor kids came over to use our pool. I was out there for hours watching kids connect and have fun while I chatted with their au pair from Peru. I’m so lucky to live in this neighborhood.

You are not going to believe what happened yesterday!
A former guest came to visit us at our new Shelter Home. It was not that long ago that he was staying with us at our emergency shelter and participating in our recovery program. He found his sobriety, found community, worked incredibly hard and eventually moved into housing of his own. He has now been clean and sober for more than two years.
Yesterday he walked in and told us he had won THE LOTTERY! His winning ticket paid out $200,000.
Then he handed us a check for $20,000.
We were stunned and honestly unsure if taking that check was the right thing to do. But then he said, “I want to give back to the place that saved my life,” and we understood.
We are not sharing his name because we want to protect his privacy and safety, but we absolutely had to share this story.
We are so grateful when we get the chance to share moments like this because they tell a much fuller story about people experiencing homelessness, who are so often misunderstood.
For anyone who thinks people experiencing homelessness are only looking for a handout, this man showed us something very different. The minute he was able to give back, he did.
Hopefully his generosity inspires more of us who are able to do what we can.
