Bad day for motorcyclists in Idaho today. First a bunch of Brother Speed riders (I was stunned that group still exists) piled up on I-84, then a rider was killed on Highway 55 near Smith’s Ferry. Been a bad year, actually.

I about died watching four of the neighborhood turkeys chase after a mail truck for blocks while gobbling loudly. WHY do they hate delivery people so much, not just here but in other states? The carrier said my dog is the only reason they didn't attack her. Hilarious when you aren't their target.

So many birds moving through our yard right now! Robins, juncos, LOTS of tanagers, nuthatches, yellow-rumped warblers, flickers, chickadees, and two Anna's hummingbirds. I love seeing mixed feeding flocks.

A woodpecker called a Northern Flickers is tossing a berry from a Virginia creeper plant growing on a chain link fence into its mouth. The bird has a brown back with black barring, a pale pink chest with black spots, a black bib, a gray head with a long beak, and a pale brown cap.

Horrible wreck north of Cascade, Idaho has shut down Highway 55 for over an hour now. Two air ambulances have departed. Probably another idiot crossed the center line, whether trying to pass or not paying attention. I finally reached my sister and friend, which have been stuck in Cascade.

From a friend who is a pilot and works in the airport industry. Using AI to recommend routing and scheduling sounds like the beginning of the end of me ever flying again. Not that we’ll be able to afford tickets, thanks to tRump’s war.

The FAA announced it would use A I to make airline routing and scheduling recommendations at DC-area airports. The fake A I example given is “Ha! You’re absolutely right. There IS a 737 waiting to take off on Runway 19. I probably shouldn’t have cleared AA5404 to land there. I’m here if you need any tips and tricks for handling mass casualty incidents.”

A former guest came to visit us at our new Shelter Home. It was not that long ago that he was staying with us at our emergency shelter and participating in our recovery program. He found his sobriety, found community, worked incredibly hard and eventually moved into housing of his own. He has now been clean and sober for more than two years.
Yesterday he walked in and told us he had won THE LOTTERY! His winning ticket paid out $200,000.
Then he handed us a check for $20,000.
We were stunned and honestly unsure if taking that check was the right thing to do. But then he said, “I want to give back to the place that saved my life,” and we understood.
We are not sharing his name because we want to protect his privacy and safety, but we absolutely had to share this story.
We are so grateful when we get the chance to share moments like this because they tell a much fuller story about people experiencing homelessness, who are so often misunderstood.
For anyone who thinks people experiencing homelessness are only looking for a handout, this man showed us something very different. The minute he was able to give back, he did.
Hopefully his generosity inspires more of us who are able to do what we can.
