My invitation remains open to all #adopted, displaced, trafficked, stolen, bought-and-sold people—anyone who accepts (not necessarily happily) the designation “adoptee”—to be added to my starter pack. Just let me know! Here’s hoping we’ll play a little less Bingo here! (h/t @bekhenson.bsky.social)
Adoptee Bingo card flanked by unicorns and rainbows. Each square contains a phrase or idea often used against adopted people who criticize adoption, such as “You’re so lucky!” and “You’d prefer to be raised by a crack whore?”

the choices disabled people have to make that no one else thinks about are a lot. There are so many mental gymnastics, and things to consider that seem unfathomable to others. For instance, do you know how much work goes into me making other people feel comfortable around me? Probably not.

Alright y'all I can't put it off any longer. We're on one income that just got cut two weeks ago, we're always flirting with losing everything bc of taxes, and I'm out here doing shit that needs to be done, namely taking care of pets other people ditched and rewilding. 1/2

Since I've gained some new followers, let's keep going with #NAAM facts. Did you know that ten states use TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) money for "Alternatives to Abortion" programs, including campaigns to promote adoption, rather than food and housing for families in poverty? 🥚

On #adoption terminology: a treacherous terrain. I always prefer “lose a child to adoption”, but I will occasionally use “relinquish,” despite connotations of agency. I *never* say “place a child for adoption.” That is industry propaganda. It’s like saying “placing a home for foreclosure.”

How Stevie Nicks responds to mask-shaming 🔥 "I dare anybody to give me a dirty look. I would just say, 'Hey, you know what? I’m Stevie Nicks. And if I get sick, my entire thing goes down. Forty families are out of work. So that’s why I have a mask on, asshole.'"
Where do you prefer that I sit?
You’re good right there, as long as you don’t think you have Covid.
No, I don’t.
Well, thank goodness we’re done [touring] for a while, so I can go home and not have a mask on all the time. As a singer with asthma, I fucking hate the masks, but I wear them. People give you dirty looks. I dare anybody to give me a dirty look. I would just say, “Hey, you know what? I’m Stevie Nicks. And if I get sick, my entire thing goes down. Forty families are out of work. So that’s why I have a mask on, asshole.”
I can’t get [Covid] again. I mean, I’m old, so I’ll only be around for another 15 years. But you guys have another 30 or 40 years, so you should think about it.

Readers of Gretchen Sisson’s Relinquished, and of the work of #adoptee -rights activists, will know that the idea of entitlement to children and to the status of parenthood drives an entire industry devoted to making vulnerable women into breeders of children for others. The idea is ingrained.
