For those who just walked in: the de facto definition of being adopted in the United States is the act of pulling your birth certificate from the public records, sealing it, and replacing it with a falsified (“amended”) record that claims your adoptive parents gave birth to you then and there. 🥚

#adoption is amazing. not only can you pay a broker to source a human being you get to call “your child,” but the state will retcon your fantasy into legal and pseudo-biological reality.

I've have many thoughts about that #adoption story line in Shrinking. At the moment I'll say for a show built around trauma, I'm disappointed but not surprised at how adoption is portrayed. We're given more insight into a patient who appeared in two episodes than we are about the birth mother.

🥚 Postscript: the fact that adopted people IN THEIR 70s are still seeking to know who their families are, why they were tossed into a plane so that an infertile couple across the ocean could have a baby, and how they can finally attain a sense of belonging…should prompt profound reconsiderations.

As strange as it was to fast for much of my birthday, I thought of my birthmother's experience when I was born, which was a lot worse. She was stuck in a hospital in a strange city, recovering from surgery. She never saw me and told me that she had pretended she was having her appendix removed. 🥚

Still pondering this question today as I read progressive responses to Millie Bobby Brown adopting a second baby. They just don't get it even when it's pointed out. I don't really know what I'm saying here except that I'm extremely disappointed. Just feeling sad about it all I guess. 🥚

I don't understand progressives. In any other context they'll analyze and critique the reasoning behind a social construct, but when it comes to #adoption? 🤷 How is it irrelevant that a woman "chooses" adoption because she can't afford to raise her child? 1/3

A young woman from a blue-collar background--aspiring and driven--spent over twenty years quietly wondering if the family who raised her was truly hers. At thirty-two, she confirmed the unthinkable: she is the biological daughter of another, entirely unknown family. Her search unfolds like a page-turning mystery, leading to an astonishing discovery--her biological grandfather was a U.S. diplomat and author, photographed in the Oval Office with President Kennedy, greeting Charles Lindbergh on the tarmac, and meeting with Rosa Parks and international leaders.
