I’m re-reading Rashauna Johnson’s fabulous new book, “Sweet Home Feliciana,” in preparation for class next week (and her visit to campus the week after!), and sometimes, like today, I’m still giddy that I get to do history for a living (how great is that?!). 🗃️ #EduSky

We hope everyone has had a wonderful World Quaker Day! Take some time to contemplate this year's theme, "Let Peace Be Among Us," in silent worship and discernment. How can we foster peace within our communities, and among our neighbors, in the year ahead?

1/6 In light of the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, it is time for a quick history check: “The Prayer of St. Francis” (Lord, make me an instrument of your peace) was not actually written by St. Francis.

God can handle your no, a not yet, your anger, and willingness to have it out and clear the air. God won’t collapse under the weight of your energy or emotions. If you fear that happening, maybe it’s time to ask yourself why.

Never forget there have always been people who trust God enough to fight with God. Some of us are descended from a spiritual lineage of those unafraid to tussle with the Holy so there’s kinship to be found with those willing to wrestle the Divine.

A little garden beauty outside the Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains this morning. I think these are Madagascar periwinkles. I love how the soft pink petals give way to those vivid magenta centers. A cheerful bit of color for an October morning! #BloomScrolling #GardenFlowers
Close-up of two pale pink flowers in the garden outside UUCM. The larger bloom fills most of the foreground, with five broad, rounded petals surrounding a vivid magenta center and a tiny yellowish central spot. Fine pink lines radiate outward across the petals. A smaller, deeper pink flower peeks out from behind it on the lower right. Green and yellowing leaves, the curved rim of a planter, and the ground below are softly blurred in the background.

I love fall so much. I've lived in Vermont my whole life and foliage season still seems like such a completely bonkers and beautiful thing to happen every year. It never gets old. 🍂
Photo of a pile of leaves on vibrant dark green moss. I collected lots of fallen leaves of different colors from different plants and trees and arranged them in an egg-shaped gradient going from green at the top to yellow and then orange and then red to darkest reds at the bottom.

New Orleans is likely to see school closures. Alumni, parents are preparing to fight back.
Due to low enrollment at L.B. Landry High School and across the New Orleans public school system, fears of closure have returned.
