Large navy text reads: “We see ICE wreaking havoc in our communities, we see voter suppression increasing, and what we’re saying is we’re done with that. We are going to continue to fight, but also continue to love until we win, until every community has investment in safety and care, and not in ICE.” The words “We are going to continue to fight, but also continue to love until we win” are emphasized in bold red. A 40% cut to victim services funding has already forced programs to lay off staff, cut services, and close their doors. The Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (#CVFSA) can help stabilize funding. Senate leadership must act now!
As Unitarian Universalists we believe in Justice and equity. The Crime Victims Fund (CVF) is the primary source of funding for services that support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, trafficking, and other crimes. Yet today, the CVF is dangerously low, putting critical, lifesaving services and victims’ lives at risk.

The Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (#CVFSA) offers a bipartisan, commonsense solution to stabilize the CVF using non-taxpayer dollars, ensuring continuity of services while Congress works toward a long-term fix.

This week’s UU Acronym of the Week: APF = Annual Program Fund. Supported by member congregations, the APF helps fund UUA resources, services, leadership support, General Assembly, and more—one way we live into generosity and mutual support. More at bit.ly/4xt1Yf7 #UU #AcronymOfTheWeek
Vertical “UU Acronym of the Week” graphic with a playful word-game theme. Loose wooden letter tiles are scattered across the top on a cream background. A dark navy rounded rectangle asks, “Do you know this one?” The center section is teal with the heading “UU Acronym of the Week” and three large wooden tiles spelling “A P F,” each with small point values like game pieces. Along the bottom, a dotted multicolor line separates the design from the UUA chalice logo and http://UUA.org . Text reads, “Because UU shorthand can be a whole language of its own,” with a teal arrow pointing right.

Vertical cream-colored “UU Acronym of the Week” reveal graphic. A tilted teal label at the top reads “SOLVED!” Beside it, coral text says “UU Acronym of the Week.” Three wooden letter tiles on the left highlight A, P, and F, while large navy text spells out “Annual Program Fund.” Below a multicolor dotted divider, text explains that the Annual Program Fund is the way UU congregations financially support the work of the UUA. Congregational contributions help fund shared resources, services, and ministries that support congregations and help Unitarian Universalism flourish. A teal wave fills the bottom, with the UUA chalice logo at left and http://UUA.org at right.

Hundreds of wild places. Millions of roadless acres. One rule protects them all.
We Must Protect the Roadless Rule...

For twenty-five years, a single rule has kept 44.5 million acres of America's wildest national forest off-limits to new roads. This rule protects roughly 30% of the entire National Forest System, including:
🌲 The Tongass and Chugach in Alaska,
🌲 The headwaters of 354 municipal watersheds, and
🌲 Habitat for more than 1,600 threatened and endangered species.

As Unitarian Universalists, we believe in the interdependence of ALL life on Earth, please take a minute and learn more about this issue at this excellent website:

Whose code is it Anyway?
Tax Reform as Democracy Reform

As the ultra-wealthy and increasingly concentrated corporations amass more wealth—and use that wealth to buy political influence—the connection between economic inequality and authoritarianism deepens.

But economic inequality is a policy choice, and one that policy can also correct.

Join the Roosevelt Institute as they convene a panel of experts to explore one critical policy tool for the fight to restore our democratic institutions: the tax code.

On Friday, August 28, 2026, I represented UUSJ at a Faithful Witnessing event in Springfield, Ohio, an interfaith event led by Haitian immigrants and other faith leaders in Springfield.

We joined local faith leaders in defending Haitian churches, particularly Haitian pastors who have been detained by ICE, supporting and standing with the Haitian community, and sharing with the world their tragic story.

Pierre Damas Bel was the kind of young man any community would be proud to call their own. He had just started his freshman year at Wright State University on August 24, chasing a dream of studying medicine. He graduated from Springfield High School this spring as an honors student, a JROTC member, and a varsity soccer player. He was the kind of young man any community would be proud to call their own. His loss is immeasurable. Unfortunately, Pierre's family and Haitian leaders believe he took his own life after months of mounting distress due to the loss of his TPS status.

As Unitarian Universalists, we are called to honor the inherent worth and dignity of every person, regardless of their immigration status. It is our honor to help share the weight so many families are carrying right now on TPS — not as an abstract policy, but as a daily fear.

Earlier this month, filings in a criminal case in Minnesota revealed that DHS had spied on Lutheran, Episcopal, Unitarian Universalist, and Baptist churches in the Twin Cities and at a Lutheran church in Michigan. And one of those churches was covered by a federal injunction.

In the last few days, ICE has escalated its efforts to round up, cage, and deport members of the Haitian community in Springfield, OH, who have recently lost the Temporary Protected Status designation. The local Haitian community asked allies to act, to show up, and show out in solidarity. Yesterday, Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice joined UUs from across the country for a vigil and to bear witness to this cruelty.
