Ursula Le Guin should be required reading* for every arsehole from MAGA, Reform, AfD, every Brexiteer and free market/Bitcoin twat, all who think you can hark back to the good old days while ignoring the obvious consequences of giving these losers power. * Technically, this sentence could end here.
A screen grab from The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin. It reads: "You cannot have anything... and least of all can you have the present -- unless you accept it with the past and the future. Not only the past but also the future, not only the future but also the past! Because they are real: only their reality makes the present real."

The Odyssey was... all right. Looked great, acting was good for an almost exclusively superhero movie cast, dialogue was ropey, sound was dire and it was indulgently long. Overall, I agree with Wilson - it's an emotionally empty revenge tale pretending to be a 'horrors of war' tale.

Rules to curb trans people's rights to participate in anything opens up everyone's manner, clothing, physical appearance to intrusive scrutiny and potential challenge. A worked example. History also shows allowing erasure of rights for one group soon sees others targeted. This is not a 'them' issue.

1— Welcome to #ThreadTalk! Today is William Morris’s birthday (1834-1896) & if you know anything about him you know he was committed to the *aesthetic* in every form. He’s often cited as the godfather of the aesthetic fashion movement... but it's more complicated than that.
This garment was inspired by 16th-century long gowns, and it was made in Liberty's Artistic and Historic Costume Studio for a member of the Liberty family.

The fairly large scale woven pattern features pomegranates and sunflowers - both favoured late-19th-century decorative motifs. The gown consists of a flared front sateen panel attached to an open, flowing robe which falls from pleats at the back neck and has gathered double puffed sleeves with narrow under-sleeves. The sturdy materials combined with deep edgings of heavy plush and a stiff mid-blue taffeta lining give the robe a stately quality. © The Victoria and Albert MuseumA picture from the National Portrait Gallery of William Morris looking rather frazzled. He is wearing a three piece suit, his hair is disheveled, and he stares straight on at the viewer.
