A must-read: www.instagram.com/p/Dd4REXWtlT...
stop only choosing to speak out about issues when it concerns your image. to most of the students in my class at boco reposting stories about the students at cornell: you are part of the problem. the truth of the matter is, when it's happening in your own community, you allow it. you create spaces for these acts to happen and for abusers to thrive.
i was told by students that "it wasn't relevant that i was r@ped" because they had their own image of who my groomer was. i was consistently reported to the equity office during my time at boco because i "was a problem" for refusing to stay silent about my abuse. because i refused to let him take drunk students home from parties. because i chose to use my voice.
i had substantial evidence against him, including texts where he admitted to what he did. and how did the university respond? "we know what kind of person he is, but we can't do anything about it." i left the university on disciplinary probation. not him. you ask why we don't report? this is why. we get punished for it.
i speak about my personal experience because i want to make a point. if you are reposting the heinous acts happening at cornell university, think about how you stand up when you actually have the ability to make a difference. think about how you show up for the people around you. you may believe that resharing a post of someone else's words shows that you stand with survivors, but do you stand by their side when the offender is someone you know? someone you thought you could trust?
start reflecting. start taking accountability. start standing with survivors, even when you know their abuser.
i've been quiet about it for too long, and i'm not afraid to speak out about how f*cked up our system is. what happened to me is a microcosm of the larger culture surrounding abuse in our society, and what's happening at cornell is a reminder that this is a much bigger problem than any one individual or institution. -MA

A colleague surprised me this morning with incredible oil paintings of Humphrey that her mother made...how did I get so lucky?!❤️
Horizontal oil painting of an Australian cattle dog mix curled up in a ball. The painting has a modern wooden frame and is signed "J.J. 2025" in the bottom right corner. In the top right corner of this vertical oil painting, the face of an Australian cattle dog mix is in focus while his body follows behind him. The rest of the painting consists of abstract lines that match his brown, white, grey, and black coloring. The painting has a rustic wooden frame and is signed "J. Johnson 2025" in the bottom left corner.

When you follow a leader, consider what would lead you to withdraw your support. If the answer is nothing, your integrity is in jeopardy. Your highest loyalty belongs to principles, not people. No leader deserves unconditional love. Commitment is earned through character.

My op-ed, summed up: when you're taking away opportunities in science, just know, this is who you're being mean to...
Felicia, celebrating her 22nd birthday at the lab. Felicia, wearing a striped turtleneck, smiles at the camera while standing in front of the lab whiteboard that reads, under "Bragging Rights," Felicia is 22.Felicia, age 18, buying Unbroken Brain by Maia Szalavitz. Felicia, wearing a red short sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and a black crossbody bag, is smiling at the camera as she holds up the book. The date (June 24, 2018) and "buying my favorite book" are displayed in white text over the imageFelicia, age 14, smiling as she holds up a pig(?) heart in biology class. Felicia is wearing a red shirt with bones on it. There is a very 2014-esque, grayish filter on the photoFelicia, age 12, lying on a bed of nails at the Boston Museum of Science. She is smiling and looking at the camera and is wearing a red short sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and bright red high-top Converse that were two sizes too big on her and made her look like a clown

Life has sucked so bad in so many ways lately, but I submitted my comps 2 days ago (& received very sweet congratulatory drawings made by @cassie-boness.bsky.social's kids), turned 25 last week surrounded by great friends & Humphrey, and found a new favorite ABQ 🍕 place. Feeling very fortunate🫶
A handwritten card that says "Congrats on finishing your comps, Felicia" in purple marker with a blue cloud and rain drawn over the "congrats", a yellow sun peaking out from the top right corner, a green ghost saying "boo" and pac-man beneath the "congrats," and a pink smiley face heart to the left of the "your." The child who drew this included an impressive amount of symbolism. Beneath it is another piece of paper with a smiley face brown beverage in a glass drawn on it. The name of the child who drew the beverage is redacted by a red heart emoji. The drawing with the chocolate beverage is in the background. The card is now open and shows a blue and green mountain range with a river running through it and either a blood river or trail to the right of the blue river. To the left of the river are red stick figures with red hearts beneath them and a blue and red heart that's labeled "me." To the right of the river is the same but with a heart labeled "you." In the top left corner, "from: [redacted by red heart emoji]" and "To: FELICIA" are written.Humphrey (an Australian cattle dog mix with black ears, black and white speckled body fur, and long, spider-like red heeler legs) sitting on a beige couch with a plaid brown blanket, alert and looking at the camera. Behind the couch is a wood paneled wall painted white and a rainbow "HAPPY🎀BIRTHDAY" sign. To the left of the couch is a window from which morning light shines in. A glass and wood coffee table is in front of the couch and reflects the sign. A succulent in a blue pot hangs from the ceiling in the top left corner.A vertical shot of 2 pies from Rumor Pizza. Someone is grabbing a slice from the top pie (vodka pepperoni), and you can see others encroaching in the corners of the photo. The bottom pie was cheese with buratta.
