Two women smile and pose for a photo while holding protest signs about science in front of the reflecting pool in Washington, DC with the Washington Monument in the background. One sign says, "Bill Nye taught you better," and the other shows a graph that says, "Rushed funding cuts" on the y axis, "Preventable deaths" on the x axis, and "Stop the regression" next to the graph.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes. The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last. The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes. Why? It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.
