This is what people tell me when I ask about their lives in any qual study I do about literally any topic - soft drinks, tech, libraries, online shopping, higher ed, whatever. People are EXHAUSTED. They don't expect things to get much better, but they do expect them to be at least this hard forever.

Just want once more to complain about CRM systems that catalog the Mr first and the Ms/Mrs second, which means that even though I am the policyholder, I am the person who filed the claim, I am the person whose name is on the check/email/letter - the response is always addressed to my husband.

this reads like a Douglas Adams bit. "Naturally these serious men measured their devotion to safety by the number of pages they wrote about it in a big book. The books got longer and longer until eventually no one could lift them." www.reuters.com/business/fin...
The company, which has positioned itself as a safety-first AI lab, devoted roughly 80 pages of the 261-page main body of its prospectus to laying out risk factors, nearly twice the 48 pages it used to describe its business.
For comparison, SpaceX, which owns xAI, dedicated just around 38 of the 277-page main body of its prospectus to risk factors.

Maine Prisoners Organize to Protect Their Rare Right to Vote - Bolts
Maine is one of the only places in the country where prisoners keep their right to vote. But logistical barriers to voting still contribute to their larger exclusion from the political process.

Here's a graphic that does a better job of conveying the point than my original post: even by the (insane) standards of the first Trump administration, #SCOTUS is receiving—and granting—a truly unprecedented number of applications for emergency relief from the federal government:
A chart that shows the number of emergency applications filed and granted by the Supreme Court during each presidency dating back to George W. Bush, with the data annualized to show the far-higher frequencies since 2017, but especially during the Trump I and Trump II administrations.

If you are a comms pro in any industry, you should be hyper aware of how core touchpoints of your ecosystem - especially the ones that are monetizable - are susceptible to a currency arbitrage-motivated scam business model. Content, influencers, surveys, email lists, voice mails, texting. All of it.

Always interesting to ask these but sometimes I do wonder if what gets coded as neutral was always used in a neutral sense. But then maybe I’ve had morissey’s “we hate it when our friends become successful” stuck in my head.

This quote by haunts me. From Wilcox's "Introduction to Robust Estimation and Hypothesis Testing" #stats
To begin, distributions are never normal. For some this seems obvious, hardly worth mentioning, but an aphorism given by Cram´er (1946) and attributed to the mathematician Poincar´e remains relevant: “Everyone believes in the [normal] law of errors, the experimenters because they think it is a mathematical theorem, the mathematicians because they think it is an experimental fact.”

I have to keep saying this. Trans rights are very unpopular on face but extremely sensitive to persuasion and question wording. In other words very few people care deeply about them, one way or another. Electorally, there is no advantage or penalty for Democrats to take one way or another.

Little Business Man On My Shoulder
A crude drawing of a little man in a suit sitting on an even more crudely drawn person's shoulder.
Caption text says "the angel and devil on my shoulder have been replaced by an incredibly dull businessman.
All he does is drone on and on about 'quarterly earnings' and 'diversifying portfolios and 'maximizing potential revenue streams' and invite me to happy hours where he threatens to do karaoke.
He says he can do a mean rendition of 'Dancing On My Own' by Robyn.
I don't think he can."

This. When we bought a hybrid what I wanted was both to use & pay for less gas. And I have! When we got a solar roof, I loved watching my electric bill drop by 30-90%. If you can absorb a one-time cost that causes your monthly cost of living to decline, don’t worry about the “pay back” period.

Never ever use Nerdwallet or other aggregator sites to do research about business loans, debt consolidation, or any other kind of loan instrument. It has been almost a year of nonstop robocalls “about my loan” (which I decided not to get). They sell your info - you can’t use your phone ever again.
