I read a couple hundred death penalty cases for a case once and I think you’d all be shocked at how often this happens. The death penalty is one of the cruelest things in our system, an obvious violation of the 8th amendment cruel and unusual punishment clause, but we just love to kill.

I have 1 feral cat pending TNR and he’s IMPOSSIBLE to trap. I’ve been feeding him under a drop trap for 2 weeks to get him used to eating under there and today was trap day and I GOT HIM. And then he climbed out the damn roof and bolted. 🤦🏻‍♀️😭🫠😑

A truly heinous man has doxxed the Cornell victim on X and the comments are predictably vile. Based on countless interviews I’ve done with survivors, the trauma they are subjected to for coming forward is oftentimes even worse than the initial trauma they experienced. So the message of this research out of China, where you were seeing a lot of kids using A.I. to help them, was that when they were using the A.I., they were getting things done faster. But it turned out that the skills they were learning were not holding, that their actual personal performance, at least in the way we traditionally measure it, was degrading.

Today’s engineers are far better systems thinkers than I was when I graduated from school. But I was a much better transistor thinker.

What do you mean by systems thinker?

They think of large systems. Today’s computers have trillions, hundreds of trillions of transistors in them. When I first graduated from school, the first chip I worked on had 200 transistors. I knew every one of them by name. No engineer does that today. Most engineers now work well above the transistor, well above the functionality, and they’re cobbling things together to do things.

So you need to think much more about systems and interactions of systems. So some of the lower-level knowledge is gone.

Tonight is the last night the little orange kitten will sleep outside. “Ritchie” as he is now called will be trapped tomorrow night, neutered + vaccines on Thursday. After surgery he’ll spend a few days indoors with a foster and then he’ll take a long drive home to Maine with his new family. 🐱🥹
