If you are wondering why Anthropic aren't coming out and opposing statements like this, it's because they very genuinely do not care about climate responsibility and will burn absolutely whatever they can get their hands on to keep the grift going. www.capitalbrief.com/article/anth...
Anthropic’s $32b Queensland data centre to run on coal and gas power until renewables are built
I frontier lab Anthropic’s first Australian data centre at Zerra DC’s proposed $32 billion project in regional Queensland will be powered by coal and gas as a bridge until renewables to support the facility are built.

Wambo Cattle Company managing director Max Winders, the owner of the land Zerra plans to build on, told Capital Brief he expects fossil fuels to power the massive project for the foreseeable future.

“I think we’ll be using fossil fuels for quite a long time in Queensland, anyhow, certainly enough to be able to get the power to drive the data centres,” he said.

Winders said that he believed that the concessions Queensland Premier David Crisafulli negotiated “at National Cabinet was critical” for ensuring the Western Downs development has the best chance of being built.

“In all likelihood, they’ll just link up to the grid, sign a contract with the state energy provider, and then, likely draw the power from the coal plants that are already there.”

Posted Fri at 11:25pmThere are early signs of a data centre-fuelled gas boom in Australia, which will come with massive, nationally significant climate costs. For example, the Tamboran proposal for the Northern Territory would effectively double the state’s emissions. In NSW, Cloud Carrier’s proposed gas-fired project would wipe out NSW’s entire projected 2028 emissions cuts.

Another day, another government climate agency pointing out that unchecked data centre growth directly impacts climate targets 🫠 www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07...
Coal mine expansions and a surge in new data centres risk pushing New South Wales further from its emissions reduction targets, which the state's independent climate watchdog says it is already on course to miss.

The NSW Net Zero Commission (NZC) annual progress report found the state is falling increasingly further behind on reducing emissions.

According to government projections, NSW will fall between 10 and 20 million tonnes short of its 2030 emissions target, up from an estimated 7 million tonnes the year prior.

It comes as 20 applications to extend coal mines sit in the planning system, including the proposal to extend Hunter Valley Operations currently before the Independent Planning Commission (IPC).

“We believe our compute infrastructure and related strategy provide us with substantial flexibility in how we allocate and monetise capacity,” SpaceX wrote in its IPO filing inside the section of “compute service agreements with third parties.”

Over a hundred thousand dedicated processors
According to a regulatory filing on Friday, Google will use 110,000 Nvidia GPUs, processors and memory components deployed in SpaceX’s data centres.

Here's a breakdown of the power consumption for 110,000 Nvidia GPUs, using the H100 as the reference (the most common high-end AI GPU):

Power Consumption: 110,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs
Per-GPU specs
The H100 PCIe model has a TDP of 350W, while the SXM5 (data center) variant supports up to 700W TDP. Hyperstack

On average during operations, an H100 draws around 500W, so a realistic cluster of 110,000 would consume roughly 55 megawatts under typical load. LinkedIn

To put 55–77 MW in perspective:

Context: 110,000 H100s is roughly the scale of a large hyperscaler AI cluster — similar to what Microsoft, Google, or Meta deploy for frontier model training.
