If you are wondering why Anthropic aren't coming out and opposing statements like this, it's because they very genuinely do not care about climate responsibility and will burn absolutely whatever they can get their hands on to keep the grift going. www.capitalbrief.com/article/anth...
Anthropic’s $32b Queensland data centre to run on coal and gas power until renewables are built
I frontier lab Anthropic’s first Australian data centre at Zerra DC’s proposed $32 billion project in regional Queensland will be powered by coal and gas as a bridge until renewables to support the facility are built.

Wambo Cattle Company managing director Max Winders, the owner of the land Zerra plans to build on, told Capital Brief he expects fossil fuels to power the massive project for the foreseeable future.

“I think we’ll be using fossil fuels for quite a long time in Queensland, anyhow, certainly enough to be able to get the power to drive the data centres,” he said.

Winders said that he believed that the concessions Queensland Premier David Crisafulli negotiated “at National Cabinet was critical” for ensuring the Western Downs development has the best chance of being built.

“In all likelihood, they’ll just link up to the grid, sign a contract with the state energy provider, and then, likely draw the power from the coal plants that are already there.”

Absolutely agree. Maybe empathy was the wrong word. Just trying to point out that taking both roles in role play gives 2 perspectives. Parents should definitely model respect.

Role playing can also be useful when student teachers take the role of abusive parents and try to understand what's driving their grievance, how they feel being aggressive to teachers and what defuses the situation. Robots not needed, empathy is. All power to teachers.

I'm yet to be convinced that "service" will be the outcome from AI in government departments. It seems to me a layer of distance between customer and provider. Medical development yes. Security dubious. Plus fossil fuels and water use up. Not convinced

If we let the current crop of "AI" people stay in charge, we are not gonna make it; not because of "superintelligent AI," but because of what the MIT study terms "cognitive surrender": offloading and deterioration of critical skills. And it increasingly feels like that's exactly what they want.

Sam Altman types are asking for regulations. When they discover breaches it takes them months to admit to it if left to their own devices. Will regulation make any difference? But hey AI will be sooo good for productivity.

A first for me to have a difference of opinion with the Aust Institute. But I couldn't see fossil fuel expansion/use changing so at least forests and koalas are preserved. And I can see the conundrum if climate change causes fires in those forests but...it's a start. A pox on Labor.

Protection of trees and koalas is so important. This is not the end of work to end fossil fuel use or expansion. It puts protective policy in place while we expose fossil fuel companies and the government that colludes with them as environmental vandals.

Global operational gas plant capacity by industry: chemicals and oil & refining dominate with tens of thousands of MW, while data centres appear as a tiny purple bar near the baseline, indicating minimal capacity compared with major industrial sectors.Bar chart titled "Planned gas plants" (global megawatt capacity, Gem Aug 2026) showing data centres dominating planned capacity as a tall magenta bar (~180,000 MW) while many other industries appear as much smaller orange bars along the bottom
